What are your plans on this fine Saturday?

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Sat Apr 04, 2009 10:53 am

The first Saturday of April?

Me, I'm cleaning-cleaning-cleaning. Organizing my xmas bins (I will admit, I just piled all of my xmas items on a table in the basement and never really took the time to put it all away - in bins - properly!). Then I got a phone call, thought I'd check my email and a few news sites.

Then I read about the tragic Pittsburgh police officers being shot.

After the tragic NY shootings from yesterday I'm about to ready to get out that xmas stuff and imagine a more, happy time.

Things just are not normal and upbeat in this country right now! (please, let's not get into a political debate.....).

I'm just saying......it's so hard to turn on the news, read the paper or go online, without seeing yet another breaking news alert scroll across the top of that page, in bright red.

Back to cleaning and pretending I guess......that things are great in this country. Things just have to begin looking up!

It's just a scary time right now......needed to share.

It's gorgeous outside right now, except we're getting 30 mph wind gusts - NOT condusive for raking. Tomorrow will be better for that. Today will be cleaning day for me.

CM - I have never had a manicure OR pedicure! LOL

To me, that must feel like a treat......LOL

It's just beautiful here too, now I'm washing the basement windows. The dog's holed up in the powder room because the vacuum keeps going too, each time I move another piece of furniture away from the wall, I need to vacuum up cobwebs.

When you spring clean like this one job leads to another!

I'll be lucky if I get to lunch today!

It's really clear out here, but windy and pretty gusty. I'm on Wi-fi at the local library, and I'll probably drop out to bike some more later.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Cleaning house. Went and bought some grass seed for the ultra shaded areas to see if that will work. I cancelled Tru-green and their guaranteed crap as it never did any good and I don't need the expense either. May get the seed out this week. Need to be sure I don't get too tired or wrought up today though(you know how old people are)because I have two choir performances tomorrow.
Interesting note to that. Over the years when the church has done live nativities or passion plays or similar my wife and I were Mary and Joseph for many years(till my beard got too gray), and our daughter has also played Mary. This year I am still in the choir, my wife will be in the congregation with our daughter and granddaughter, my son is playing the part of Jesus and Judas is being played by my son-in-law and he has to kiss his brother-in-law!!!!WITHOUT LAUGHING!!!!   Anyway, we are proud no matter what as the tradition of our family's involvement in this church continues through the 4th generation!

I spent most of the day at the ballpark. It was a beautiful day... not too hot, not too cold... felt great. Then I went shopping!

I spent most of the morning on Friday running around with my head cut off preparing for relay. Then I Relayed For Life until 10am Saturday. Then I slept for ~23 hours (after a nearly 48 hour awake shift) and got up at 9am this morning.

You must treat yourself to a pedicure one day. It's heavenly once you get past the ticklish part. There are a gazillion nail places around here but i found one that i really like. A pedicure only costs me $23 but i tip her well cuz she massages my feet for a good while.

Today we're missing the baseball game. Got the kids and a couple of their friends over for a bbq. Hubby went out to rig up one side of the grill that had rusted out (he refuses to put a cover on it) and it fell apart. I laughed and laughed at him. So now he's out assembling a new grill. Let's just hope he reads the assembly instructions. We have had the grill for about 10 years and it's not under a covered area.

Pedicure.... ahhhh. That's something I don't get very often, but now that you mention it... I could use one!

We're getting ready to go to the South Texas State Fair. It was canceled this past October due to damage from Ike, but for the first time ever, they're having it in the spring! When Rita hit, it was canceled altogether (for the first time since the YMBL took over the event in 1942), so I'm glad that after canceling it for Ike, they were able to move it to the spring.

And it's another beautiful day outside!

I know its Sunday now, but I'm watching football (soccer) and watching the MLG Halo 3 tournament.

Since the start of spring, I think we've only hit 50 a few times. :(

yesterday I was up at 5:00 (my usual time) and got started on the work I brought home for the weekend. We have two projects due next week and we're working like crazy. Then after lunch I just puttered around the house and did a couple minor repairs, helped clean, etc. The wind was really strong yesterday.

Today I went for a bike ride. It was 60 and beautiful. The first 15 miles were flat road, but I had a 10 mph headwind. Then crossed over a mountain, and rode a bike path, dodging pedestrians and dog walkers, half of the rest of the way home, and the the rest was rolling hills. I feel like I never really got the pace going.

Tonight, working again.

Mary, even so, if you look back in history, we STILL are living in a remarkably tranquil time.

I did end up going out on Saturday in the wind to weed and trim back my rose bushes. Today I raked. I LOVE SPRING!! :D

Watched the Final Four on Saturday afternoon and night. Great year Villanova! Tonight, MLB opening night - GO PHILLIES!

I've had manicures, never a pedicure - I too have "winter feet". I've got to get working on them.

Ed - true, things could always get worse!

Steph - I did yardwork today too. I looked at my forecast Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday and thought I'd better get to it today......I'm on spring break this week from work. Had planned on 5 days of outdoor work but we have snow showers in the forecast - that's crazy! LOL So when it's cold I'll do indoor work. Or maybe not even work one day - I might just treat myself to an afternoon at the library and read magazines OR a pretzel at the mall (haven't been there in ages....).

I do still miss things, the way they used to be.

The other day I got half a haircut. Now Ed, be nice, no not half my head...the girls will understand. I had a wash and cut. Walked out with wet hair! To save $.....see my other hair thread to understand.

And I miss ordering pizza too!

Things will get better, we just have to be patient!

Half a haircut, Mary? I get half a haircut too, but it's because I only have half a head of hair. I still pay full price though. There's no justice in the world.

Thanks for the fun thread Mary. When I have a day full of challenges it helps me unwind to come to good 'ol S2K!
