You all know how we love to swap hair cuts/styles/products stories....

Let's discuss moisturizer products.....

I have the good luck (ha!) of finding one that works great, doesn't cost an arm and leg and then it no longer exists......poof, just GONE from the shelf. Never to be found again.

Years ago I used to use Raintree, a product made by Noxell, who brings you Noxema (a product I used to use back in the day and still keep on hand for sunburns and sometimes if I need a deep facial before I fall asleep, there's something very beneficial in this product, IMHO).

Then I bounced around between products, but 50% of the time I'd buy one that was very irritating (did I forget to mention I have sensitive skin? LOL).

The past year I bought a small jar from Nivea (sp?)......can't find it now to save my life.

Of course I see all these VERY pricy products......

So ladies, spill away. What is your favorite?

I'd like to find a product without irritating ingredients, that's deep moisturizing (cream over lotion) and one that will stick around for a while. LOL

Next......(I will confess to using Aveeno hand cream on my face, in a pinch.....GASP!).....

*Edit* Feel free to mention what you wash your face with also. I wash mine with Dove bar soap and once a week I steam my face, using a buff puff to scrub with afterwards, then I apply a thick layer of moisturizer, sometimes the Noxema if I have time to put on several layers, they take a while to seep in).

To the surprise of others who have seen me doing it, I simply wash my face (and make-up off) with soap and water. I have make-up remover, but I rarely use it. I will then apply moisturizer or a face scrub occasionally. I use Bioré strips every once in a while and am always horrified by the results.

It is very frustrating.......like you, I'm a soap and water girl and I love my Dove soap (it's so mild, the commercials are correct, there is cream in that soap!).....

I just got back from the grocery and decided to try a new cream from Olay, it's supposed to be created for sensitive skin. So we'll see.....a 2 oz jar was only around $7. I didn't that price was too unreasonable. (And oh yeah, I'm getting smart in my old age, I am not recycling the box it came in, so I can find it on the shelf next time, if I like it!).

But some of these moisturizers are closing in on the $20 price! That's crazy!

Those P & G execs and other beauty item marketing execs must be feeling secure right now. They know women will buy their products.....sigh.

I remove my eye makeup with those Almay non-oily eyemakeup remover pads. The face just gets washed with soap and waterusing a buffpuff but gets applied with mary kay timewise moisturizer with a 15spf in it. There's an timewise eyecream by marykay that i use also.

Wash my face with soap and water.Then I apply Oil of Olay with a 15 sunscreen. I've used this since I was in my 20's. I have tried others over the years but I always go back to Olay.

Have they changed the formulation for Oil of Olay? I used to use it, but it started to cause a severe reaction under my eyes..


In the mornings, after washing my face, I usually use Dove face moisturizer and Burt Bee's undereye cream before applying make-up.

In the evenings, I take off my make-up with soap and water. Then I use a non-alcohol toner with witch hazel (good astringent). In the summer, I don't usually use moistutizer, because it causes my skin to break out.
But in the winter, I will put some on before I go to bed (my skin drys out a lot during the winter).

The Aveeno hand cream is great too . . . I use a lot of it during the winter. (I have problems with dry skin on my hands . . . to the point they will crack and bleed, if not take care of) Also, in a pinch, Vaseline works great for dry skin and it help to clear up the problem I had with Oil of Olay..

lurkey - it does seems as though many of these products change over time. Or they no longer seem to work as well for us. Like you I have dry hands in the winter, to the point of cracking and bleeding too. Since I work in a school cafeteria it's become even more of a problem since we wash our hands all the time. With harsh detergents (that cannot contain lotion). Sometimes I fill a bowl full of warm to hot water, with a few generous squirts of baby oil and soak my hands. I force the cracks open which hurts at first but as this oil and warm water seems in, it seems to soothe my raw hands. Afterwards I pat them dry, not completely dry and apply handcream. When I take the time to do all of this, they are in better shape. But I get lazy and don't often do it. I like Curel and Aveeno lotions a lot. Both do not irritate my skin. One of the more recent break thru creams I've tried is an Avon product. If you ever get a chance to try their products, order this one: Moisture Therapy, Restorative Rescue Balm. It's not expensive either. Even if you wash yours hands later there's lotion/balm still working on your skin. You can feel it. Make sure you see the word "balm" before ordering this product though, once I thought I ordered this specific product but ending up ordering cream or lotion. It was irritating! And not as thick as this balm is. So now I know, if I don't see the word balm I keep searching on their website pages/products until I see it. I have a tube right here by the keyboard, in fact I have a few all over the house. LOL! I also joke that if I could just wash my hands once a day, apply lotion and then not have to cook, clean, do yardwork, pick up after my dog, etc. my hands would look GREAT! I just have to wash them so many times during the day that they look like they belong to someone else!
