Oh, yes, really bad storm! I've been on the phone with my sister who lives just south of I-85 in Auburn. The worst seems to have passed, for now. They had really strong winds-- they heard them while they were in basement. They had marble-sized hail. Now, they've got a break between storms while they watch a storm that has a tornado warning just to the west of Auburn.

70-80knots of horizontal shear with this cell. Indicative of a very strong mesocyclone that can produce a large tornado at anytime. It may be starting to cycle up again after being in a lull the past few radar frames.

... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 1000 PM EDT for Muscogee
and Chattahoochee counties...

At 811 PM CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate a tornado. This tornado was located 12 miles west of
Columbus... moving east at 35 mph.

Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to Bibb
City... Laurel Hills... Rose Hill... Columbus... Avondale... Columbus
Metropolitan Airport... Highland Park... Carter Acres... Edgewood...
Benning Park... Fort Benning/Lawson Army air field... Saint Marys
Hills... Kenwood... Battle Park... Benning Hills... Custer Road
Terrace... Flat Rock... Vista Terrace... Sand Hill... north Fort
Benning... Jamestown/South Fort Benning... Eelbeck/west Fort Benning...
Cusseta... Renfroe... Christopher and Manta.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This is an extremely dangerous and life threatening situation. This
storm is capable of producing strong to violent tornadoes. If you are
in the path of this tornado... take cover immediately!

Ugh, that Columbus TV station isn't even really concentrating on the hook echo - the most dangerous part of the storm! They keep complaining their own radar isn't working. They need to look at Montgomery's NEXRAD!

It's in AL actually, but we escaped. A huge supercell went over the northern end of the county but we didn't see much of anything here. There's another supercell off to the south now so we slid in between, nothing bad at all, and it's moving out now. Thanks for the concern.

I've been dealing with major computer problems today which is why I haven't been on much, nothing to do with the storms.

I know you're in AL. I don't know why i put GA. Image

Supercells continue to be capable of producing strong tornadoes to the SE and NW of Columbus, GA. Haven't heard any confirmations of tornados, but the doppler velocities continue to indicate strong horizontal shear.

I believe tomorrow they will survey the Murfreesboro tornado.

I wonder what they will find for a rating? My guess is EF3.

http://www.wsfa.com is doing a great job, I think, of reporting the severe weather in central Alabama. They're reporting damage east of Montgomery-- roofs off houses, stands at a youth baseball field blow into a back stop, trees down, power outages, etc. Click on The Community tab on the WSFA website to see photos of the hail that covered porches and was 3 inches deep near Lake Martin!
A possible tornado was reported earlier near Notasulga (which is WNW of Auburn) and a home was destroyed.
For more storm reports: http://www.weather.gov/view/prodsByState.php?state=al&prodtype=public
Fortunately, my sister reported the second round was not as bad as the first round in Auburn. Hopefully, this weather will move out soon because we're heading to Auburn tomorrow for Easter. Looks like we may be seeing damage around Montgomery when we travel through there.

Given that watch 134 has already gone over an hour into overtime and things are spreading south, I'd say there should be Tornado Watch 137 issued in central and southern AL/GA.
