I'm not surprised in the least. Ratings have been totally dreadful. It was dead the moment FOX moved it to Fridays(was originally going to air on Mondays before 24). I've actually had it on the last few weeks and it's somewhat decent but not my type of show.

Sadly I see Friday going the way of Saturday soon... with more reality and repeats and less scripted(CBS is the only one besides FOX airing original scripted shows, FNL on NBC is repeats and the rest on NBC and ABC is reality or news shows). Just not worth it anymore for the networks to invest much money. I'm not even posting Friday's ratings because they are quite awful except for CBS(and even their numbers are pretty sad compared to other nights).

TV Ratings: 'Harper's Island' shores up CBS Thursday
NBC and CBS tied for first in the adult demo

April 10, 2009

Fast National ratings for Thursday, April 9, 2009

Premieres of "Harper's Island," "Parks and Recreation" and "Southland" added a bit of new blood to Thursday's lineup, but ultimately the night belonged to CBS.

CBS snagged a 7.8 rating/13 share, drawing in an estimated 12.7 million viewers. Second-place FOX nabbed a 5.1/9 with NBC's 5.0/9 on its heels. ABC finished with a 3.4/6, while The CW had a 1.3/2.

In the adult demo, however, it was a draw between CBS and NBC, both doing a 3.3 rating for viewers 18-49. In third, FOX had a 2.9, followed by ABC's 1.3 and The CW's measly 0.7.

CBS kicked off the ratings mastery at 8 p.m. with "Survivor: Tocantins," 6.7/12. FOX came in second for the hour with a 5.6/10 for "Bones," while NBC took third averaging a 4.4/8 for "The Office" and premiere of "Parks and Recreation" combined. The comedy duo of "In the Motherhood" and "Samantha Who?" averaged 3.2/6 for the hour, while a "Smallville" repeat trailed on The CW.

At 9 p.m., "CSI" kept the ratings ball rolling with a meaty 9.9/16 for CBS. The hour's second place was tied between FOX's "Hell's Kitchen" and NBC's "Office"/"30 Rock" combo, all averaging a 4.5/7. A repeat of "Grey's Anatomy" got a 3.8/6 for ABC, still ahead of the "Supernatural" repeat on The CW.

Finally, CBS' ratings hat trick finished with a 6.7/12 for the debut of the murder mystery "Harper's Island" in the 10 o'clock hour. It bested NBC's premiere of "Southland," 6.2/11 (although NBC did better in the adult demo this hour). ABC's "Private Practice" rerun was last with a 3.2/6.

Did anyone watch the premieres of "Southland" or "The Unusuals" this week? I've finally seen both of them. Southland, imo, is at best not worth watching. I found "The Unusuals" to be some what interesting and plan on continuing to watch it.

The Unusuals was okay but not that great. I'll be sticking with it for now though because the timeslot is dead. I have not tried Southland(and probably won't right now, I watched Harper's Island instead) because I'm not into gritty cop shows but it had a TON of positive reviews, more than I expected. Southland seems to have a better long-term prognosis also since it did pretty well Thursday, but the next few weeks will be crucial. NBC stupidly is going down to only 10 hours of programming next season though for the fall so who knows what will happen.

TV ratings: CBS Masters Sunday competition
Golf playoff helps the Eye to the top

April 13, 2009

Fast National ratings for Sunday, April 12, 2009

A sudden-death playoff for the Masters golf championship helped boost CBS to a ratings win on Easter Sunday.

CBS averaged a 6.9 rating/12 share for the night (because of the late-ending live golf coverage, the numbers will change a bit in final nationals). NBC, 4.6/8, finished second in households, but ABC, 4.5/8, brought in more total viewers. FOX came in fourth at 2.3/4, and The CW trailed with a paltry 0.7/1.

CBS also led among adults 18-49 with a 2.9 rating. ABC and NBC tied for second in the advertisers' favorite demographic with a 2.3. FOX averaged 1.8 and The CW only 0.3.

The Masters and "60 Minutes" combined for an 8.4/17 on CBS at 7 p.m. An "America's Funniest Home Videos" rerun, 3.6/7, gave ABC second place in viewers, even though "Dateline NBC" had a slightly higher household rating (3.7/7). Reruns of "American Dad" and "King of the Hill" averaged 1.5/3 for FOX. The CW aired its usual "Jericho" rerun.

CBS stayed on top at 8 with the conclusion of "60 Minutes" and "The Amazing Race," averaging 6.9/12 for the hour. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 4.8/8, kept ABC ahead of NBC and "Dateline." Repeats of "The Simpsons," 2.6/5, and "King of the Hill," were fourth for FOX, while the movie "Three Strikes" scored a 0.7/1 for The CW.

The second hour of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 6.4/10, moved ABC into the top spot at 9. CBS fell to second as "The Amazing Race" and "Cold Case" combined for a 6.1/10. "The Celebrity Apprentice" drew a 4.6/7 for NBC, topping the 2.9/5 average for "Family Guy" and "American Dad" on FOX. The CW's movie improved a little in its second hour.

CBS regained the lead at 10 p.m. as "Cold Case" and "The Unit" averaged 6.4/11. "The Celebrity Apprentice" improved to 5.4/9 for NBC. A "Desperate Housewives" rerun on ABC earned a 3.1/5.

I watched Harper's Island and really liked it. Sure, it is a bit cheesy, but I dig it! 8-)

A new reality type show that takes place in Alaska premieres tonight. As I searched for more info online, it seems as if this is the premiere of its second season (but with a new set of characters, similar to Survivor). Has anyone here watched Out of the Wild: Alaska Experiment? If so, it premieres tonight at 10, on the Discovery Channel. I'm still trying to determine if it's a brand new show or tonight is its second season. 8 episodes only, so it's an easy commitment as well.

TV Ratings: CBS snatches demo title from ABC Monday
'Dancing with the Stars' still leads the overall race

April 14, 2009

Fast National ratings for Monday, April 13, 2009

ABC and "Dancing with the Stars" kept the overall ratings lead Monday, but CBS grabbed the top spot in the key adults 18-49 demographic.

ABC's 9.0 rating/14 share led the night, beating out CBS' 7.4/12. FOX was not far behind in third at 6.9/10. NBC came in fourth at 4.2/7, while a night of reruns on The CW drew only a 0.7/1.

In the adults 18-49 demo, CBS' 4.1 rating edged out FOX's 4.0 for first place. ABC finished third with a 3.4. NBC's 2.7 took fourth, and The CW was way off the pace with a 0.4.

"Dancing with the Stars" earned an 11.9/18 for ABC at 8 p.m. "House," 7.2/11, put FOX in second, in front of "The Big Bang Theory," 6.1/10, and "How I Met Your Mother," 5.7/9, on CBS. "Chuck" delivered a 3.7/6 for NBC. The CW aired a "Gossip Girl" rerun.

ABC stayed on top at 9 with the conclusion of "Dancing with the Stars," 13.0/19, and "Surviving Suburbia" (6.9/10), which fell some from its premiere last week. CBS moved to the front of the demo pack with "Two and a Half Men," 8.8/13, and "Rules of Engagement," 7.0/11. FOX's "24," 6.5/10, snagged third. "Heroes" scored a 4.1/6 for NBC, improving in its second half-hour after "Dancing" ended. A "One Tree Hill" encore ran on The CW.

"CSI: Miami," 8.5/14, gave CBS the lead at 10. ABC's "Castle" hit its lowest ratings yet with a 5.1/8, but that was good enough to edge NBC's "Medium," 4.9/8, for second.

TV Ratings: 'American Idol' is Tuesday's main attraction
Movie songs carry FOX to win; 'Dancing' results solid for ABC

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, April 14, 2009

A night of movie songs on "American Idol" led FOX to its usual ratings win Tuesday.

FOX scored a 10.0 rating/15 share and close to 17.5 million viewers in primetime, beating out second-place CBS' 8.2/13 and 12.9 million viewers. ABC, 5.6/9, edged NBC, 5.2/8, for third. The CW trailed with a 1.4/2.

FOX also ruled the adults 18-49 ratings with a 6.3 rating. NBC took second in the demographic with a 3.3, followed by CBS at 2.6. ABC averaged 2.1 and The CW 1.0.

"American Idol" scored a 13.3/21 for FOX at 8 p.m., up a little from last week's performance show. An "NCIS" rerun, 8.6/13, put CBS in second. "The Biggest Loser: Couples" drew a 5.1/8 for NBC, while an hour of "According to Jim" averaged 3.0/5 for ABC. "Reaper" brought up the rear for The CW.

ABC took the lead at 9 thanks to the "Dancing With the Stars" results show, 9.4/14. A repeat of "The Mentalist" kept CBS in second, while FOX's "Fringe" earned a 6.7/10 (and led the hour among adults 18-49). "The Biggest Loser: Couples" improved to 6.1/9, and "90210" (1.4/2) built a little bit on its lead-in to finish with a 1.4/2 for The CW.

"Without a Trace," 8.4/14, moved CBS to the front at 10 o'clock. ABC's "Cupid," 4.4/7, finished second in viewers despite NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" rerun, 4.5/7, having a slightly better household rating.

TV ratings: 'Bones,' 'Idol' rule Wednesday
FOX rolls to victory over repeat-heavy CBS

April 16, 2009

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, April 15, 2009

A special edition of "Bones" and the judges' save on "American Idol" combined to give FOX a big ratings win Wednesday.

FOX scored a 10.3 rating/17 share for the night to finish way ahead of second-place CBS, 6.0/10. ABC finished third at 4.2/7. NBC, 3.9/6, came in fourth, and The CW trailed with a 1.7/3.

FOX also domiated the adults 18-49 demographic with a 5.5 rating. That was more than double the average for its closest rival, ABC (2.6). CBS took third with a 2.4, followed by NBC, 1.5, and The CW, 1.1.

"Bones" drew a 6.9/12 for FOX at 8 p.m., winning the hour by a wide margin. Reruns of "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Gary Unmarried" averaged 3.7/6 for FOX and drew a few more viewers than a "Law & Order" repeat on NBC. ABC's "Scrubs," 3.4/6, and "Better Off Ted," 3.0/5, improved a little over last week's numbers. The CW got a 2.6/4 from "America's Next Top Model."

The "American Idol" results show, in which the judges chose to save Matt Giraud, delivered a 13.8/21 at 9. A "Criminal Minds" rerun, 6.7/12, kept CBS in second. "Lost," 5.4/8, grabbed third for ABC (and finished second in the 18-49 demo), while a "Law & Order: SVU" repeat on NBC was fourth at 3.7/6. The CW aired a "90210" rerun.

"CSI: NY," 7.7/13, gave CBS the lead at 10. ABC's "The Unusuals" and another "Law & Order" on NBC each drew a 4.1/7, with ABC drawing a few more total viewers.

TV ratings: CBS cruises even though 'Harper's Island' falls
'Southland' continues decent performance for NBC

April 17, 2009

Fast National ratings for Thursday, April 16, 2009

"Harper's Island" fell off a good bit in its second week on the air, but the rest of CBS' Thursday lineup was strong enough to carry the night.

CBS averaged a 7.3 rating/12 share in primetime, easily beating the 5.2/9 for second-place FOX. NBC, 4.7/8, finished third. A rerun-heavy night on ABC drew a 3.3/6, and The CW trailed at 1.2/2.

CBS also led among adults 18-49 with a 3.2 rating. FOX and NBC tied for second at 3.0. ABC, 1.4, came in fourth, doubling The CW's 0.7.

"Survivor: Tocantins," 6.9/12, put CBS on top at 8 o'clock. "Bones" earned a 5.7/10 for FOX. "My Name Is Earl," 3.4/6, and "Parks and Recreation," 3.6/6, took third for NBC, beating "In the Motherhood" and "Samantha Who?," which averaged 3.3/6 for ABC. The CW went with a "Smallville" rerun.

"CSI," 9.7/16, gave CBS the night's biggest audience at 9 p.m. FOX's "Hell's Kitchen," 4.7/8, just beat NBC's combination of "The Office," 4.9/8, and "30 Rock," 4.6/7 (NBC did, however, tie CBS for the 18-49 lead in the hour). ABC stayed in fourth with a "Grey's Anatomy" rerun, while a "Supernatural" repeat on The CW scored a 1.2/2.

NBC took the lead at 10 with "Southland," 6.1/11, which was on par with its premiere last week. "Harper's Island" posted a 5.3/9 for CBS -- down significantly from its premiere -- while a "Private Practice" rerun on ABC drew a 3.1/5.

Screen Actors Guild has reached a tenative deal with producers, the last Hollywood union with no contract. Strike fears(which had really calmed down the last couple of months) can totally go away now.

Update - the Out of the Wild: Alaska Experiment on the Discovery channel was good. You never quite know what is scripted and what is reality, but this show felt more authentic than Survivor does. No games, no reward challenges. The 9 stranded in the Alaskan wilderness were not given beans or rice. They can find water and have flint for fire but no food unless they catch fish or kill an animal (all they've been able to catch for far was a mouse). The scenery is stunning. Just beautiful. And of course you have your usual assorted mix of people - young blonde girl who says to the camera crew - I don't know how I'm going to make without my iPod. LOL! The packs they each must carry weigh about 60 lbs.

The show just started in case anyone wants to catch up. Only one member has gone home (each one wears an GPS device on their belt, if they think they can't continue, they press a button and a helicopter comes to that specific location to pick them up).

We're still trying to watch our shows on the DVR - we had a busy week, one night away from home until 10.

Hoping to catch up on my TV shows by Sunday night. I don't like to go into Monday morning, being behind in shows when so many more air! LOL

Miss Mary, DH is back tomorrow night and it's going to be an Edie memorial episode. Each housewife will remember a classic moment they had with her.

She's off the show. She could always come back later but she will not be back anytime soon so I'm going with DEAD. The housewives will all go on a trip to tell her son about it.

Well, okay then, I'll brace myself for her to be gone. If a wife had to die, I guess it makes sense it was Edie. But she kinda grew on me. And early on I thought I'd like Susan the most. Turns out I like Lynette the best. The one that annoys me right now is Bree, she needs to send Orson packing.

I would guess that's going to happen very soon also. All their plots lately have been Bree disappointed in something Orson did, and Orson indirectly caused Edie's accident(he was in the middle of the road after robbing a house! and she swerved and hit the powerline). Bree will probably blame him for that.

Okay Brent, you were right. Once again. She is dead. Gone. Nada.

Feel sad though. I was just starting to like Edie, after all this time. I wish we hadn't had so much time between the last episode and tonight's episode. What was it - 2 weeks or 3? Too long.......her passing tonight was almost like a distant dream. When we all gasped at the end of the car accident episode. Would have been nice to have the follow up episode just 1 week later. If I had been in charge....

Good episode though. Nice closure to an unusual character! I think for me Nicollette Sheridan was finally Edie Brit (and not Paige Matheson.....LOL). I was ready to fully see her as Edie now.....but now she's gone. :-(

Yeah, I will say the long break kind of made me blah on it too but you know how primetime TV goes. Most big cliffhangers happen before a long hiatus(at least there are no more breaks before the finale this way)

I thought it was a good tribute to a character that wasn't always nice, but I did like that some of her good qualities were pointed out, that she wasn't totally evil. My favorite was Gaby and Edie trying to get "swizzle sticks" in a bar.

TV Ratings: CBS, 'Desperate Housewives' are Sunday best
'Housewives' is the night's top show, but CBS gets overall win

April 20, 2009

Fast National ratings for Sunday, April 19, 2009

The return of "Desperate Housewives" to ABC gave the network a boost Sunday, but not a big enough one to unseat CBS from the overall top spot.

CBS averaged a 6.6 rating/11 share in primetime, topping ABC's 6.0/10. NBC finished third in households with a 4.2/7. FOX, 3.0/5, came in fourth, while The CW managed only a 0.6/1.

ABC did take the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 3.1 rating. FOX took second in the advertisers' favorite demo with a 2.5, followed by NBC, 2.3, and CBS, 2.0. The CW drew a paltry 0.3.

CBS scored a 7.7/14 at 7 p.m. with " 60 Minutes." " America's Funniest Home Videos," 4.4/7, put ABC in second. The Miss USA pageant on NBC delivered a slight 2.6/5, but that was good enough to beat an "American Dad" rerun, 1.6/3, and the 250th episode of " King of the Hill," 2.0/4, on FOX. The CW ran a "Jericho" repeat.

" The Amazing Race," 6.2/10, kept CBS on top at 8 o'clock. A repeat of " Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 4.6/7, took second for ABC. The Miss USA telecast improved to 3.8/6 in its second hour. " The Simpsons," 3.8/6, and the premiere of "Sit Down, Shut Up," 2.9/5, were fourth for FOX. The CW went with the movie "At First Sight."

The first new "Desperate Housewives" in four weeks earned an 8.5/13 -- the night's biggest audience -- at 9 p.m. CBS fell back to second with its Hallmark Hall of Fame movie "The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler," 6.3/10. "The Celebrity Apprentice," 5.0/8, hold onto third for NBC. " Family Guy," 4.3/6, and "American Dad," 3.4/5, finished the night for FOX. The CW played out the string with its movie.

At 10, ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" posted a 6.4/11, narrowly beating the conclusion of CBS' movie, 6.1/11. "The Celebrity Apprentice" drew a 5.5/9 for NBC.
