I had been having some minor problems the past few weeks with it not recognizing the power supply and also lots of space and memory issues, but this is the first time this has happened. Any ideas? If the hard drive is failing is there anything I can do short of buying a new one? Would a total system recovery that wipes out everything solve the problem? The computer is over 2 years old and this is the first real crippling problems I've had.

Both our daughters who are in college have Mac laptops. They've never had any trouble with them. Our oldest started college in 2005. If that tells you anything!

Good luck with your search Brent.

"HP 15.6" G60-235WM Laptop
Being last on the list does not make this laptop any less amazing. At the price of $598 (walmart.com) this laptop includes an amazing 2.10 GHZ Dual Core processor, 4GB RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. Wow! Also included is a 15.6" HD BrightView display, double layer DVD drive with LightScribe, Windows Vista, NVIDIA GeForce 8200M graphics, webcam, microphone, 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader, HDMI, VGA, and a 6 cell battery."

Just sold me even more. :cheesy:

I'm in the market for a new laptop as well. I thought I had decided a few times, but kept changing my mind. This one looks good... thanks for doing all the work, Brent. lol The only thing I wish it had is Bluetooth. I have Bluetooth on my current craptop and it's nice to just turn it on and sync pics, music, ringtones, etc. to and from my phone. I do have a Bluetooth CD that I bought several years ago and put on my desktop though, so I think that would work as well. I'd just likely have to update the drivers & stuff, and since I'm not the most technological savvy person, it's easier if it's just ready to go! Anyway, I'm going to check this one out some more. If we end up with the same one, we can consult each other if we have any problems (which we better not!)

Good luck!

Macs are so darn expensive, you can buy almost 4 computers for the price of a Mac. Not to mention I've always used Windows(despite all of it's flaws, though I will say, I've never had major problems with Vista, the computer didn't die because of that).

LOL, that's funny SG. Isn't your old one a Toshiba too?

Looks like it's going to be tomorrow before I get it. :( This computer which my mom and sister use isn't too bad though because despite the fact it's a year and a half old(and also a Toshiba) it has virtually nothing on it. LOL The hard drive isn't even half full. The only real problems are the random shutdowns and no battery.

LOL, probably tonight.

This one just had a problem. Everything in Firefox(bookmarks and history) all gone and it's not remembering sites I'm going to(even since the crash). Never happened on mine. I wasn't on it when it happened so it's not my fault. :P

Yes, I remember. Mine was an A135 and dead in just over 2 years, and this one now is an A215. Needless to say I'm not very happy, considering I spent close to $1,000 on that one.

I recently bought a HP Pavilion dv5-1250us Entertainment Notebook PC...so far it has performed decently, I even had Rhapsody (music program), MSN, Skype (both messengers) and GrLevel2 Analyst running, plus firefox and it was running fine.

:uarrow:

I just found I'm going to have to hold off on buying a new one for a couple of weeks at least. I just can't come up with the money for it right now. I may have some money coming in Early to Mid May though. Ugh. This one isn't *TOO* bad for the time being, so it could be worse.

Most laptops made in the last couple years have fast enough processors and memory. The hacker in me would probably just buy a 7200 RPM laptop hard drive from ebay for $50 to $75. Some laptops use just a single screw to lock the hard drive in otherwise its literally plug and play. I replaced a keyboard on a thinkpad for 20 bucks, just removed two screws and it popped out.
