Re: #storm2k on twitter!
hey! sorry for the confusion
yes i saw that user 'storm2k' but i'm not sure he has anything to do with weather
if you don't have a twitter account, you can get one quick @ http://twitter.com
the quick definition of twitter: a community of 'status updates' that uses txt and the web to keep 'followers' updated on your current whereabouts/thoughts/etc
i frequently use twitter as a source for severe weather information, and i'm excited to see how that will translate to hurricane season. i follow these accounts and have their updates sent directly to my cell:
twitter.com/stormreports (another way to say this would be @stormreports, just some twitter lingo for you
)
twitter.com/weatherwatches
twitter.com/tornadoalert
i also follow @quakeinfo , @seismicevents, @healthmap, and @hurricanes (which hasn't been too active yet)
it has turned out to be a really great source for disaster-related real-time info. i also update sometimes with observations and weather info too. (http://twitter.com/alexanderhall) i thought if anyone else in the community was on twitter, it would be especially fun to follow them during hurricane season. (giving us live updates on conditions, what the local media is saying, etc)
check out some of these pages and see what you think! feel free to follow me as well. its definitely a site worth exploring.
if you have more specific ?s let me know!

Re: #storm2k on twitter!
Also, if you can go to http://www.search.twitter.com enter name of hurricane and it will provide real time tweets for the hurricanes as they occur this season.
for those, like me and prefer search in twitter apps, you can use Tweetdeck, twhirl, and tweetie (Mac and iphone/touch only) to provide update tweets on hurricanes ..
I have reserved a twitter name for Storm2K in case the admins and mods decide they want a twitter account. I have pmed SG with the info.
I will post my weather links for twitter later on. .. sorta have to get back to work

do you have windows or mac?, b/c if you have mac -- tweetie is way better than tweetdeck. I have been using tweetie for twitter and search and twhirl for friendsfeed (don't ask sg, you think I confused you with twitter, you don't want me to start with friendsfeed . .

Re: #storm2k on twitter!
fact, im using tweetdeck (on a pc) but yes i've heard of different programs for apple.
basically these programs allow for a couple different ways to explore twitter data, searches, profiles all on one interface on your desktop. its kinda handy, i'm just getting the hang of it.
one thing that i've found interesting about tweetdeck is you can monitor in real-time the appearance of and {several at once, actually} terms, phrases, words, and hashtags on twitter.
for example, right now, i'm watching all the tweets that come in referencing 'chicago' , 'swine flu' and '#tornado'
during a hurricane event - you would monitor 'hurricane' 'storm' 'ike' (whatever the storm name is) etc etc and get some amazing results
