This wind farm is just 30 miles north of here. It's AWESOME to see...these windmills are freakin' HUGE! My mind spins when I think of the engineering that went into these "Mighty Monsters!"

Where I used to work on the Loop 610 in Houston we could look out the windows and see the individual components for those types of windmills being trucked to sites all over the nation from the Port of Houston. You are right, they are HUGE and require special trucks, escorts and special routes to get to their destinations. In a city like Houston, one of those things, or several, passing by can really mess up traffic for a while. I look at it as part of the price for positive progress in the energy community.

I've seen one of the blades on a flat bed go by...we were like "What was that?" then I remembered seeing a wind farm from one of the ranges during Basic at Fort Sill (was family day, the day before graduation from basic).

We pass by a series of those giants on our way to and from San Diego in the east county mountains there. We are always amazed at just how huge they are! And of course the mother load of wind farms lies west of Palm Springs and just south of Big Bear where literally hundreds of those giants stand and face the force of nature.

There's a small wind farm just outside of Atlantic City but along the coast. It's really windy around that area, and I love watching them as I drive the Atlantic City Expressway to work every morning.

Mainly because the cost would be prohibitive, imo. The structural dynamics are much different for turning turbine blades than for hanging wires. My guess is it would be cheaper to build from the ground up than to retrofit.
