SLOSH model help need!

#1 Postby byu004 » Wed Apr 29, 2009 6:25 pm

Dear all,

I am working on hurricane wind/surge analysis. I need your kind help for the SLOSH program.

After executing the SLOSH model, using the following:

*** Execute the BATCH file : "runme.bat"
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
@echo off
echo "RUNNING HUGO"
..\bin\stm2trk hugo.stm hugo.trk 59 70 76
..\bin\sloshDos hchs ..\sloshbsn hugo.trk hugo.rex hugo.env

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I got the output files including hugo.env and hugo.rex.

When I run SLOSH for many hurricane tracks, I only need the water level height (*.env data). To save disk space and run SLOSH faster, I do not need to execute the animation subroutine (*.rex) and export the *.rex file every time. Would you please tell me how to set the parameter in batch file (or other changes) to get the *.env results only?

By the way, following is another unsuccessful trial:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
@echo off
echo "RUNNING HUGO"
..\bin\stm2trk hugo.stm hugo.trk 59 70 76
..\bin\sloshDos runme2.lst ..\sloshbsn 1

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
My "runme2.lst" is
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
buff1
buff2
buff3
hchs, hugo.trk, hugo.rex, hugo.env
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I highly appreciate your time and your kind help!

Best Regards.

You might be able to get some assistance from the Meteorological Development Lab:

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/mdl/

I attended a presentation by Dr. Will Shaffer at the NHC a few weeks ago. The development team at the MDL may be able to assist you. By the way, a new version of SLOSH is supposed to be released in early June. Dr. Shaffer implied it would be available for download on the web site above. The new program will have 4 times the resolution, updated (using LIDAR) SLOSH basins, the ability to toggle storm size and also a toggle for height above MSL and inundation level.
