Spring-time Glimpse of Bermuda High?

#1 Postby gatorcane » Mon Apr 20, 2009 9:56 pm

Latest South Florida discos and model guidance suggest a very strong H building across the entire Western Atlantic for the extended range. That will usher in strong E winds at 15-25 mph along the SE Coast of Florida starting about Thurs. night or so and lasting through the weekend.

It would appear a Bermuda High like feature or something similar to trying to build into the Western Atlantic already. It will be interesting to watch this feature in the coming days and the next couple of months as we transition through Spring into Summer:

GFS Sea-level pressure 144 hours:

GFS 18Z 500MB, very summer-like ridging across the entire northern Atlantic. Note Azores-High feature also.

EXTENDED PERIOD...THU THROUGH SUN...DRY THU AND FRI AS HIGH PRES
MOVES OVER THE FLA PENINSULA. BY FRI NIGHT EASTERLY FLOW ABOUT
THE HIGH NOW IN THE ATLC BEGINS TO PULL MOISTURE BACK OVER THE
AREA WITH NOCTURNAL SHOWERS FRI/SAT NIGHT ALONG THE E COAST WITH A
CHANCE OF SOME PRECIPITATION AREA-WIDE SAT AND SUN

Interestingly the Azores high has often been dislogded to the NE into western Europe, reminds me somewhat of 2006 in that respect so far though whether that continues into summer is a big question!

Here we are still with a dominating High....even two weeks later...

When will this long-wave pattern end? Florida is in desperate need of rain.
