The NHC has already said that it had acquired some tropical characteristics, which in my book says subtropical.

I'm still on the fence about this one. I'm still leaning toward subtropical storm. While I'm not a fan of naming those types of systems, I'm surprised the NHC (who, in my opinion, tends to name storms liberally) hasn't upgraded this. This is really no different than several other systems over the past few years.

I have to agree here.
Especially since its been persisting for over a day now.

It has a close circulation, the convection is weak but I have seen other tropical systems with the same appearence due to high latitudes, it's not cold core and it is producing winds higher than 35 kt. For me is at least subtropical, maybe we will have to wait until post analysis.
