Buoy 42019 60 NM S of Freeport looks impressive...
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=42019
Had an "unofficial" report on the local Forum from someone on a rig 50 miles S of Rockport reporting 68 MPH winds, with extremely heavy rain, hail, and waterspouts.

We had some rather strong thunderstorms yesterday afternoon. It was pretty windy, a lot of thunder & lightning, and a decent amount of rain (here). Some areas had a lot more. The storms weren't moving much. There were a few tree limbs scattered about and a huge branch on the highway near here.
Anyway, I was skimming over my local AFDs and saw this... wow! 73mph wind gust at the airport!
<snippet from NWS Lake Charles afternoon AFD>
ACTIVE DAY ACROSS SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE AREA AND COASTAL WATERS
WITH AN IMPRESSIVE WIND GUST OF 73 MPH AT KBPT AND A PHOTOGENIC
TORNADO/WATERSPOUT IN SOUTHEASTERN VERMILION PARISH. RADAR HAS
SHOWN SEVERAL OTHER INDICATIONS OF DOWNBURSTS AND POSSIBLE
WATERSPOUTS IN THE COASTAL COUNTIES AND PARISHES AND NORTHERN GULF
TODAY.
RADAR COVERAGE HAS BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER THAN MOS GUIDANCE
INDICATED ACROSS SOUTHERN ZONES...BUT FAR LESS OVER NORTHERN AREAS
SO FAR.
There was only a 20% chance of rain on Tuesday.

Wow!! That is 100% more than we got here in Houston. We had a few spits here and there, but I have had to resort to watering the yard again. Hope the advertised 40% for this afternoon comes over my house!

And we're getting round 2 today. Strong to severe thunderstorms have been popping up rapidly. Hopefully you won't have to water your yard again. Unfortunately for us, it was the one afternoon in well over a week that we had to do yard work. The yard looks like crap and it's going to be nearly a week before we have another chance. So what if we lose a few pets or kids in the high grass and weeds, huh? lol

Now that the power and cable are back on...
2.13 inches of rain so far today. we had .24 from a little storm this morning.
This storm so far has had a lot of small hail, biggest was about penny size.
I haven't seen this much lightning in many years.
Looks like it's trying to back build...

Re: SE TX/SW LA weather: Summer Pattern
So far today all we have gotten is the cooling effects from the blow off from the storms. It has all stayed to the South of us. I could use some back-building if it would bring us some rain.

Me too! I had a doctor's appointment and other errands this afternoon/evening and the storms wouldn't let up. Lots of thunder & lightning! I had an umbrella, but I still got wet. And my flip-flops were definitely too flat. lol My niece had to find an alternate route to work due to flooded streets (granted that area is one of the first to have street flooding).
That 73mph gust recorded at the airport yesterday... well, my dad's business is directly across the street (highway) of the airport. He said they had to lock the front door to his building because the wind kept blowing it open!

Storms missed us completely, and NWS HGX disco suggests the sub-tropical ridge will be large and in charge for at least a week.
I watered the lawn yesterday. Thunderheads all about, but none over my house.

With daytime highs in the mid 90s (mid 30s for Canadian readers) and no rain ever again, at least not this week, water bills could be climbing.
And my orange tree is full of little baby oranges, and will need lots of water.

No rain in sight for the next 7 days and if the GFS is to be believed it could be more like two weeks. Things are about to get very dry around here with daily temps in the 90's. June is supposed to be our wettest month of the year!

I didn't realize that when we got all that rain on the 2nd and 3rd, that that would be it for a while. No rain in the forecast for at least a week... wow. However, I just checked radar and there's some small showers popping up just offshore and moving northward. Maybe some of you will get lucky.

Thank you for the conversion to Celsius Ed. I personally know what each means re feel but I still have to look up the conversion table to get the exact reading in the other scale. ;D Younger Canadians however have just grown up knowing the Celsius scale so posting in both is helpful for them.
This semi-arid (bordering on arid some years) area of the Northern Great Plains had a number of days of soft steady rain so our seeded crops are ready for HEAT (in the 70's and 80's F please NOT the 90's or 100's F). We were forecasted again to have F*R*O*S*T
(what a filthy word) last night but we ended up just dropping down to 5 C/41 F.
My tropical plants, courtesy of Texas and Florida, are staying out from this point til Jack's first fall visit.
Now we are predicted to receive above normal temperatures but a dirty high is still above us so our weather will continue to be unstable (re just rain I hope).
Sending wishes that you dry folks also get the rain you are praying for.

Very troublesome situation developing in SE TX. HGX is "hinting" we may not see rain the remainder of June...

12Z SOUNDINGS SHOW A FAIRLY STOUT CAP AT 750 MB BUT THEY ALSO
REVEAL SOME DECENT PW VALUES BETWEEN 1.6-1.7 INCHES. VIS SATELLITE
SHOWING SOME CLOUD STREETS SO THINK ISOLATED STREAMER SHOWERS WILL
BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON BENEATH THE CAP. WINDS
SHOULD BE A BIT BREEZY TODAY AS WELL WITH 20-25 KNOTS AT 1000 FEET
MIXING TO THE SURFACE. EXTRA CLOUD COVER AND WINDS MIGHT LIMIT
TEMPERATURE RISE THIS AFTERNOON BUT WILL LET CURRENT FCST RIDE DUE
TO THE WARM START TO THE DAY. LONG RANGE MODELS SHOW RIDGING AND
MORE RIDGING. SOUTHEAST TEXAS WILL PROBABLY GO RAIN FREE FOR THE
FIRST THREE WEEKS OF JUNE. DROUGHT CONDITIONS WILL LIKELY BECOME
SEVERE BY THE END OF THE MONTH. 43
