Re: C/SC TX Weather #1 - recent rain welcomed
Picked up another nice .50 inches of rain early this morning as a dying MCS rolled southeast through our area. Fairly active cloud-to-ground lightning with it despite being on its waning stages.

SPC just put Travis County and counties to our northwest under a Tornado Watch until 10 p.m. Interesting. We've had very few of these this spring.

Looking like it could get real nasty for your area and even try to make it our way. Keep us posted.

I'm in Pflugerville and we just started getting hail... I'm a wee bit freaked out cause I'm not home - I'm dogsitting for 4! dogs ... 2 of them untrained puppies... and my sister is at my house watching *my* dog!

I just looked at the radar and you are just about right in the middle of the worst part of the north end of the complex from what I see. It's going to be rough for a while. Stay safe and keep us posted.

Very bad here in SW Austin. No tornadoes but ferocious lightning and high winds. Wow, what a storm!
Reports of tornado touchdowns in NW Austin are being aired on the news.

Oh my gosh. I think we're all ok. My sister and my dog hid out in the powder room. I discovered that 4 dogs don't fit in my friends pantry/tornado shelter. Even if they did, the puppies (14 and 18 weeks) pick on the big dogs (10 and 14.5 years) enough so the 14.5 yo wouldn't go into the pantry.
The good news? The littlest one, almost house trained, waited till she got out of the pantry before having a liquid accident!
Seems like it's calmed down for now. I can't tell yet if my car is dinged tho from the hail.

Wow, what a night last night here in the Austin area! We had tornadoes. We had hail. We had high winds. We had flooding rains!
Generally the area received between an inch and 2.5 inches of rain. Reported hail sizes ranged from pea size to baseball sized. Law enforcement confirmed two tornado touchdowns in north Austin. The damage doesn't appear to be too significant and the speculation here is that they were F0 or F1 tornadoes. Regardless, it sure made for a lot of drama!
Here is a video clip on YouTube to allegedly be one of the tornadoes. I cannot confirm it:

I still don't know where the 'reported tornado' was that was spotted 'South of Round Rock nr I-35" ... because I'm dogsitting in P'ville just south of RR nr I-35 and reports of that tornado are what cause me to try to get the dogs into the pantry... I wish we have what Dallas does - the more detailed storm info...

Shoshana, the two reports I heard were one sighting at 1431/I-35 and another sighting at 183/Anderson Mill. The latter supposedly had witnesses that saw debris kick up. Dunno about first other than the NWS had multiple calls in about it from law enforcement and the public.
I dunno what it is, but the hailstorms always seem to be worse in northern parts of our area.
I know NWS officials were out yesterday doing damage surveys. I haven't seen what they determined about the tornadoes.

There's a lot of June 11 storm videos from your area on YouTube. Check out the "Related Videos" from either one of those links.
Glad you guys are ok!

Thanks SG ... I didn't realize there was THAT much online about the storm. Given how "wired" Austin is, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
The videos also remind me there apparently were a number of drivers who took shelter under overpasses during the hail. Traffic on some of the main arteries was clogged up because so many took this approach. According to some news reports, the biggest safety issue wasn't the direct storm effects but the drivers who pulled over and then stopped on the roadways, creating a bad hazard.

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1: place in oven, bake at 100 degrees
On that first picture showing the storm - what is that purple thing supposed to be? Whatever it is, it's almost exactly where I was that night...
1431 and I35 isn't "south of Round Rock" ... people are so confused!
Yeah I saw where people didn't even pull off the road under the overpasses they stopped in the traffic lanes! I guess the shoulders were already full.
We're back to being toasted. The newspaper is saying we're on line to have a record breaking number of 100+ days in June. I was hoping not to have to use the sprinklers...

Re: C/SC TX Weather #1: place in oven, bake at 100 degrees
We set a record high yesterday (6/23/09) at 103 degrees. At 2 p.m. today, it was already 101 and my guess is we break another record.
This is not fun.

So I see Shoshana ... so I see. Geez, this is going to be a brutal summer if we're dealing with this kind of heat and we haven't even made it out of June.
Tonight is my watering night so the sprinklers will be in full force.
