One quick post before another round hits and hits HARD! I've been on the phone with the NWS/FLAG most of the afternoon giving severe wx updates......I've had 2.85" since 1123 hrs, it's 1643 and I've got another severe cell fixing to move in. We were rained out up on top this morning, working on a enviro impact study at 11,200'.......driving home, we hit 2" of hail on the road, made it slicker than Spotted Owl poop!!! Gotta get.....check out this radar :o

Well, in regards to how SEVERE that drought has been in the west, that has got to be one of the prettiest radars I've seen in AZ in a long time.

is neither a winner nor loser until it's over and we see just how effective it was-we still have another month plus a week or so in the monsoon yet to go. Heavy rains like that are not helpful for the drought and at any rate, it's the winter snowfall that counts the most in Drought alleviation. Snow's total precipitation deficit that must be made up before we can consider the drought to be over is on the order of 40 inches or more and that's not going to happen during the monsoon-it will take years to make that up.

Yup....that's pretty dog gone slick.......driving along doing 35 mph due to visibility being almost 0, the back end of the pick up ALMOST came around and passed the front end!

Starting to drizzle once again, finished up with 2.43"......my front yard stood in 1/2" of water for a good hour, now......dry! Most of rain ran off, too hard, too much at one time like Steve said.

I understand what you are saying. I know that the snow is the most critical piece to the moisture puzzle. It just seemed to me that you guys are getting alot more rain from this monsoon SO FAR than this time last year. Then again, as you and Dennis said, with it being so dry that the heavy rain is just running off and not being absorbed. Here's hoping that the rest of the monsoon season is just as active!
