Hard to believe 107 for mcallen is a July record...heck, I have been in Laredo a few times and all of them were over 100. I know Mcallen is further south and has higher humidity, but still...Denvers all time record is 105, I cant believe McAllen Texas cant do better than 107 in July. Texas apparently goes from subtropical to desert VERY quickly as you drive of the Rio Grande. Having said that... a couple sites I looked at the the actual all time high is 110...which leads me to believe that it was outside of July...but I dont know when. Interestingly enough, the all time high for Brownsville is only 106...and it was recorded in March!...in other words, as if it wasnt already...cross South Texas off of "places I ever would ever live" :)

Thanks Hurakan, the record high in Miami was actually originally set in 2004, not 1992 (for July 7).. the NWS made an error :)
But July 1992 did set a number of records in Miami...
Jul 4 96F, Jul 5 96F, Jul 6 95F (tied 2009) and then Jul 10 93F tied with 1981..then 1996, 1997 and 1998.
Then came Hurricane Andrew on Aug 24/92  ... then only one other record high that year for Miami, set Sep 20 with 94F

Record Highs Tue Jul 7 2009

Valdez AK 77F tied 2004
Anchorage AK 81F **WARMEST SINCE 2005**
Yakutat AK 85F
Galena AK 88F
McGrath AK 89F **ALL TIME JULY RECORD tied Jul 30 1977**
Miami FL 95F tied 2004
Vero Beach FL 95F tied 2000
Ft Lauderdale FL 97F
MCAllen TX 109F **ALL TIME JULY RECORD & 2nd Hottest day ever tied Jun 14 1998**

I'm surprised the records aren't higher in the southern part of the United States......Saskatchewan's record high is 114 F (it is also Canada's record high): http://www.saskschools.ca/~stdom/ccclimate.html

It's interesting the differences between the interior and the coast. Tamiami Airport registered 78ºF and my thermometer registered 77ºF as yesterday's low while MIA registered 81ºF.

Here it's the difference between 'in the city' and 'out in the country'. Austin Mabry is in town, Austin Bergstrom is out on the edge of town. Our house is usually about 2-3 degrees hotter than Bergstrom. (right now it's showing 108F)

San Francisco and surrounding towns can be 20+ degrees different.
