Another legend gone.
I remember as a child watching the CBS evening news with my parents every nite Cronkite was on without fail. His reporting style was second to none and can never be duplicated.
RIP Walter

You beat me to it Cat 5!
Most definately a legend. You felt like you were listening to an old friend that was talking directly to you.

I remember watching him for the moon landing and I've seen the videos of his JFK broadcasts (I was 2 when that happened)and remember watching him everynight with my parents.
He was one of the greats, he will be missed, RIP

He was the giant of the golden age of broadcast news - truly "the most trusted man in America." I can hardly think of any of the major events of my youth without picturing him delivering the news.
Rest in peace, Mr. Cronkite.
Exactly my thoughts.

RIP
I remember the Cuban missile crisis and getting prepared. Always felt I could take whatever was coming as long as Cronkite was giving the news. I guess that sounds silly.

No it sounds exactly like I felt.
I will never forget the CMC since I was in P'cola when that happened and we were considered a priority target for Cuba and the entire military complex all over NW FL went on high alert and total lockdown.

I was at Whiteman AFB in October 1962 and I can tell that the ENTIRE US Military was on high alert and lockdown-in fact all of our aircraft were loaded with nukes and dispersed all over the map.

Oh yes, we saw the planes flying in fully loaded with the bombs, etc. I believe the newest at that time was the B-58 which had just become operational and wave after wave of them were coming into Eglin AFB. B-52's fully loaded coming in etc. Quite a sight to see.
