Overcast and 91 at our house, 89 at the airport. Muggy.

Our compressor died overnight so I'm glad it's overcast. Hopefully we can get it fixed soon!

Highs so far today: 102 at Bergstrom, 100 at Mabry.... so where's the cold front????

And boy is it humid!!!!

For those that are counting, this makes 34 100+ days this year. 14 in a row 100+ I think the record is 21... but hopefully sometime this week it will cool down. Maybe.

I dunno I was in Dallas in 1980 and at least my car has a/c now! Back then we had 40 days in a row over 100 with a 112 and 113 one right after the other. My fanbelt melted. Swimming pools got too warm to swim in.

Blech.

I don't remember any water restrictions then - I don't think we came into the summer of 1980 in a drought situation.

Mabry 103 (record is 104) Bergstrom 100 (record 102)

I think I saw 3 rain drops on the windshield...

Count=35, 15 in a row.

Chance of rain next 2 days - Thurs may not make 100 but I'm not holding my breath!

IIRC Dallas (DFW) had 69 days of 100+ back in 1980.

I don't think they will get anywhere close to that this summer, but is has been brutal for SC and SE Texas.

That was before I lived there. I was there in the summer of '98 and that one was no picnic. I am glad I am closer to the coast now where it's not so hot.

Upper ridge is supposed to move back this way in time for your return trip to Austin. May the center of the High please sit over Portastorm's house for the rest of the summer!

We got .20" of rain and it still got over 100! You know how yuk that is? 98-100 degrees and rain?

And it's day 3 of no central a/c at our house... hopefully we'll get a couple more estimates and figure out which one is best...

Enjoy it while you can Portastorm!

I moved down here in '98, so I got to see the not so fun Austin summer of 98 ...

You guys (oops, I slipped into some Yankee language due to my environment) ... I mean, y'all are cracking me up!

CC, your wish will probably happen since the High pretty much HAS been sitting over my house all summer.

All kidding aside, we got a good view of area lakes when we took off on Saturday on an American MD-80. You can really see just how woeful the situation is and how low the lakes are when you're 10,000 feet up in the air. We all need some serious rain soon. I'll do my best to bring it back with me.

99F high yesterday. So far 99F high today. Wish it would just be 100 cause it's just as hot either was and at least we could count 100 towards some kinda record. Oh.. Wunderground is now showing 100 for today's high.

We've had 2days this month under 100 - July 1 was 93, yesterday was 99. Haven't seen highs under 90 since May 27.

I found this today:

"NOAA: Global Ocean Surface Temperature Warmest on Record for June
July 17, 2009

The world’s ocean surface temperature was the warmest on record for June, breaking the previous high mark set in 2005, according to a preliminary analysis by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. Additionally, the combined average global land and ocean surface temperature for June was second-warmest on record. The global records began in 1880. "

I found the following a day earlier:

"The strange transition between solar cycles 23 and 24 continues. For the first time in several months, a cycle 23 sunspot is trying to form. This further illustrates the fits and starts that the sun has experienced during its deepest solar minimum in 100 years."

Kinda looks to me like maybe there is NOT a link between the solar cycle and global surface temps...not something the skeptics want to hear and feel. Living here in SC Texas I would have to believe NOAA!

Last but not least and (reiterating my cat on the carpet-pee-spot analogy) I found:

"SATURDAY JULY 25TH:
THE UPPER LEVEL HIGH IS CURRENTLY CENTERED OVER THE 4 CORNERS REGION
WITH SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE EASTERN PERIPHERY OF THE UPPER LEVEL
RIDGE. THE RIDGE OVER THE EASTERN HALF OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS WILL
WEAKEN MONDAY AND TUESDAY AS A SHORT WAVE SLIDES SOUTHEAST ACROSS
NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS RESULTING IN A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS.

THE 12Z GFS SOLUTION KEEPS CONVECTION NORTH OF OUR CWFA WEDNESDAY
THROUGH SATURDAY AND CONCUR WITH THAT SOLUTION. THE SUB-TROPICAL
UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL BECOME RE-ESTABLISHED ACROSS SOUTH TEXAS
AND THE GULF DURING THIS TIME FRAME RESULTING IN THE CONTINUATION
OF THE HOT AND DRY WEATHER PATTERN."

Uuhh....maybe there are 2 cats now fighting for the same spot

Tropical Storm, I found that last information at: http://www.weather.gov/view/prodsByStat ... discussion

Well, it hit 100+ again today. Think that makes 38.

As far as the high - I figure it will be here till October when it starts raining...

I guess CC got his wish as I saw the giant "H" above my house yesterday afternoon. :x

I tried to bring the rain back down from Ohio but it seems to have gotten lost up in north Texas.
