HGX Update still looking good for most of us...

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
1134 AM CDT FRI JUL 31 2009

.UPDATE...
MORNING FORECAST UPDATE.

&&

.DISCUSSION...
THE FORECAST EVEN FOR THIS AFTERNOON REMAINS RATHER CHALLENGING.
SCT THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY SHOULD PERSIST GIVEN HIGH MOISTURE
CONTENT WITH PW VALUES OVER 2 INCHES. ADJUSTED HIGHER POPS A
LITTLE FARTHER SOUTH AS IT SEEMS SCT THUNDERSTORMS ARE INCREASING
IN COVERAGE TO THE SW BUT THE BEST CHANCES WILL REMAIN NORTH OF
I-10. HEAVY RAINFALL WILL REMAIN A THREAT AND DOUBT THERE WILL BE
MUCH IN THE WAY OF A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM THREAT. TEMPERATURES
REMAIN TRICKY. YESTERDAY WITH ALL THE CONVECTION...SOME AREAS
STILL BROKE OUT OF THE CLOUD COVER AND REACHED THE UPPER 90S.
SUSPECT THIS AFTERNOON WILL BE MUCH IN THE SAME WAY SO ONLY
HEDGED MAX TEMPS DOWN A DEGREE OR TWO BUT STILL THINK MID/UPPER
90S WILL BE POSSIBLE. IT MAY ONLY TAKE 2 HRS OF HEATING TO REACH
THOSE TEMPS IN THE AFTERNOON. HEAT ADVISORY STILL LOOKS GOOD
ALONG THE COAST WITH TEMPS IN THE LOW 90S THIS AFTERNOON AND DEW
PTS IN THE UPPER 70S.

Things more getting "interesting" by the hour. Montgomery County may need a Flood Advisory shortly.

OT, "local forum" is back up as well.

Rain dissipating all around se texas (beaumont) to east of lafayette. Not counting on that 60% chance of rain.

Contrats to those houstonians who got rain today!

Cloud tops continue to cool. Many outflow boundries interacting as well. Very frequent CG popping at my location.

I just dumped 2 1/4 inches out of my rain gauge from the overnight/morning storms. Areas to the north got much more, but I'm certainly not complaining! The consecutive hours of thunder & lightning were amazing. The only bad thing is my contractors didn't get to come today to work on my remodel project.

Congrats to all of us who got/are getting some much needed rain today and I hope there aren't too many problems for those who have gotten too much at once. My weather alert was going off overnight with flash flood warnings for the counties just north of here.

Looks like I got some nice storms earlier when the line backbuilt (?word?) to the SW and now I'm firmly entrenched in the dark green/yellow area of general rains. Me and my lawn are rejoiceing right now for sure!! Its about time!

Edit: Got 1.05" here. Not uber-spectacular but not bad...not bad at all :D

The outflow is now starting to retreat back north, it'll be interesting to see what happens over the next few hours, altho I don't expect much this far north, could get interesting for part of metro-Houston again.

:uarrow: Yeah, and I thought I was going to get struck by lightning in the parking lot

Looks like we're all in the clear. I see the DFW area to our north is about to get pounded again. I'll bet my parents' lawn is nice and green!

WOW - DFW is getting it yet again! What a most unusual mid-summer pattern.

Headed to Galveston today into the heat advisory area...will be nice and steamy I'm sure.
