Lightning Strikes Construction Worker

#1 Postby DaylilyDawn » Fri Aug 01, 2003 7:45 pm

This afternoon at around 3 pm a lightning bolt came out of a clear blue sky and struck a construction worker at a job in the Tampa Bay area. The storm it came from was well inland from the area where the worker was. The worker is still alive but in critical condition.

BestofFour, here in central FL lightning is nothing to play around with. Thunderstorms can be very intense and frequent lighning strikes abound. My son came home this evening from a day over at Disney World and siad that lightning had struck Cinderella's castle. Fl gets more cloud to ground lightning strikes than any other place in the US. Last week 3 workers sitting under a tree for a lunch break were struck by lightning when a bolt hit the tree they were under.

Absolutely right, bestofour. Florida is the Lightning Capital of the United States. My location had thunderstorms from about 6:15 PM (ET) to around 9:30 PM-10:00 PM (ET)

Thanks for passing the information about lightning striking Cindrella's castle at Disney World last night. I didn't watch (or hear) the local news last night, so I hadn't heard about it.

I can't imagine lightning like that on a regular basis. Thanks for passing on that information and I hope the construction worker recovers.

WX247. the construction worker is still alive but he is in very serious condition. He faces a long recovery period and therapy after that to even begin a normal life again.
