Have the Cape Verde Islands ever been hit by a hurricane?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Have the Cape Verde Islands ever been hit by a hurricane?

#1 Postby otowntiger » Thu Aug 27, 2009 8:20 am

I realize they are down there at the genesis of a lot of storms and are the namesake of the type of storms that come from that area, but since they are so close to Africa I was wondering if there has ever been a hurricane form to their east and affect them? I would guess not since there is not much room there, but I know anamolies happen. Anyone know?

Yep, I was going to mention the 1980 season - it was a busy one for the CVI...

Tropical Storm Beryl in 1982 is notable. Killed 115.

That's not true. Someone's using dubious sources to write these articles.

Um...what?

What reasoning do you have to think it's not true? The source is the NHC.
