FI, one gang member told me that the "initiation" for a new member was to drive him around until they found some person who was hthe "candidate's" size and build, then drop him off to "take him"and ride away for five minutes. If the man-on-the-street was "down" by the time they came back, he was "initiated"...if not, they rode past the "fight" and left the wannabe member there for the police.
Only after completion of this "deed" did a new member earn his "colors" (the embroidered patches on the back of his jacket).
