Not a sci-fi fan either but do think that The Lord of the Rings movies look very good, although I don't think I will probably ever watch them.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit are truly classical literature. They can be enjoyed on many many different levels from a simple goods guys win viewpoint on up. I did a paper in college on parallels between the books and the Bible. It was a real eye opener for me and one more way to enjoy the details of the story. As far as the films go, they have been executed as well as could be hoped for. Of course you miss some of the story threads with the movies but the essence of the books is maintained. The production of the movies has been awesome and I can't wait for Dec 17th when the last movie, Lord of the Rings- Return of the King is released! If you haven't seen them I heartfully encourage you to do so!
10 stars in my book! (on a 1 - 5 scale )

Actually, I'm not a big sci-fi person myself, though I did enjoy the origianl Star Trek. I think it is more along the lines of classcial literature as Marshall said. They were stories I could "get lost in". I've also always loved reading about Camelot and King Arthur. The "Once and Future King" was a book I read in High School and I had to do a book report on it. I loved reading it (which always helps for school).
