SOUTHEAST ARIZONA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TUCSON AZ
935 AM MST TUE AUG 5 2003

.SYNOPSIS...THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT BREAK IN THE 2003 SUMMER
THUNDERSTORM SEASON WILL CONTINUE FOR ANOTHER DAY AS DRIER AIR IS
FIRMLY ENTRENCHED ACROSS THE AREA. THIS WILL RESULT IN THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY BEING RELEGATED ACROSS THE EASTERN MOUNTAINS. AS THE UPPER
HIGH SHIFTS BACK INTO A MORE FAVORABLE POSITION...AN UPPER LEVEL LOW
FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO WILL MOVE WEST TOWARD ARIZONA WITH AN
INCREASE IN THUNDERSTORMS...ESPECIALLY DURING THE LATTER PART OF THE
WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...REGIONAL 12Z UPPER-AIR SOUNDINGS SHOWED A MUCH DRIER
AND STABLE AIRMASS IN PLACE TODAY. BOTH EPZ AND ABQ SOUNDINGS
INDICATED A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN MOISTURE DURING THE PAST 24
HOURS...ESPECIALLY AT ABQ. VERY TEMPTED TO REMOVE ALL POPS FOR
OUR CWA FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. FOR NOW...WILL JUST LOWER
WHAT POP VALUES WE HAVE GOING AND CHANGE WORDING TO UNCERTAINTY
TERMS RATHER THE AREAL COVERAGE. ALSO..SOMEWHAT SCEPTICAL ABOUT THE
CURRENT TREND OF RAMPING UP TSTM CHANCES THIS WEEK. LATEST ETA
SOLUTION LOOKS MORE REASONABLE COMPARED TO THE GFS WITH THE ETA
CAPTURING THE DRIER AIR NOW IN PLACE OVER MUCH OF NEW MEXICO. WILL
WAIT UNTIL THE AFTERNOON PACKAGE TO MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS TO LATER
FORECAST PERIOD. WILL LIKELY TIRM BACK OR DELAY A BIT MORE ON THE
ADVERTISING OF THE UPSWING IN TSTM ACTIVITY.

.TWC...NONE.

Actually,
A 'Sasparilla' can be a Root Beer,Creme Soda,Ginger Ale or any combination...sometimes..they mixed them! They used REAL Syrup and sugar in those days and added some rather unusual 'roots' that they thought may be medicinal.Coca-Cola in Hotlanta used some 'Coca Leaf' byproducts...as 'Doc Holiday' used it to 'numb' a soon to be toothless scoundral when he was a Dentist in Atlanta. He shot and killed 2 men in an argument over a card game that became famous in Tombstone. Can anyone name that game?
BTW..the closest to a 'Sasparilla' is bottled by a Dallas Firm(used to be HQ for Dr Pepper)..they are known as 'SBC'..if you see it in the store under Creme Soda or Root Beer in the Bottle..BUY IT!It just don't get no better then that! 8-)

The lizzard's lips have turned into fried calamari rings up here - it was 110F today. No rain since that first night. The possible votmaxes may or may not
pan out for the lower deserts - i.e. - us - over the weekend, so don't expect
any precip unless Zeus himself stomps in with a bolt in one hand and an
outflow boundary in the other.

Currently: 106F RH13% DP46 WWNW14 Forecast: 110+ again

Didn't Doc Holiday play poker?

We have an mirror with an old advertisement for Coca-Cola - it's one of those wall hangings you'd see in a pub. Anyway, it says something to the affect that one of it's ingredients was "coke" and how the drink "really refreshes you". :o I guess so!

I hope the 'soon comes back to you guys shortly!

WELL.......the first day of the comeback was, uh...how you say, a "gully warsher!" Some of the most intense CG yet this season, I received a little over .54" in a 1/2 hour period with wind gusts here at the house of 58 MPH with that particular cell! My poor anemometor....I thought it was gonna take off for places unknown!

Desert Southwest Weather Service Forecast Discussion
9amPDT August 7th, 2003

FINAL Discussion, where to chase? LOOK BELOW!

Will I put together all the information, and the Complex of Southern Arizona to the Mexican Border will have the most storms today. they will be a moderate rain producer, but good stand for some good lightning shows. some Direction shear is in place over there area, not enough to produce the Supercell, but just keep in mind, every bit of shear counts for good storms.

STORM FACTS

Southern Arizona/Mexican Border will be the Strongest storms today. They will be moving to the WNW at 3mph. they will be heavy rain and lightning producers. could see hail with it as well. Good lift, Moisture, Outflow boundries possible, and temperatures will make for this complex to be of moderate/High scale. any system that forms from here will move to the South and West of the Tucson Area. Tucson could get in on the action as well. As storms will fire over the Mexican Border to the South and East. Outflow from those storms can make tonight in Tucson a stormy night. Chase these storms today through tonight.

Eastern Arizona/New Mexico Border storms will be moving to the East today at 4mph. These storms will have Moderate rain and some lightning as well. Dont expect these to be hail producers, a sufficiant updraft will not be in place.

The Mogollon Rim storms will be moving to the NE at 7mph. These storms will drift off the mountains into the high country of Arizona. the humidity and very high lift is present. Hail and Heavy rains are possible from these storms as they move to the Northeast.

WATCHES AND WARNING PROBABILITIES

Flood Watch/Warning-(NONE)
Flash Flood Watch/Warning-(Northern Arizona, and Southern Arizona)

Steph,
The 'Name of the Game' in the 1800s,esp in Tombstone was 'FARO'..a card game not unlike modern day 'Baccarat'.High stakes..very risky.
Wyatt Earp was co-owner if the 'Oriental Saloon' where he was also a Faro dealer.
The 'Clanton' Gang the nemisis used to play against Doc Holiday...Wyatt the dealer. This escalated the tensions...as 'Cheatin' was the ultimate insult. There was a major Monsoon storm that eve as well.
The skirmish ended at the O.K. Corral the .44s Blazin'.Virgil,Wyatt,Doc what a scene! The Clantons buried at 'Boot Hill' on the North Edge of town.

I remember in the movie "Tombstone" that they did call it "Faro". I loved that movie - especially the way Val Kilmer played Doc Holiday! :D

Indeed,
I was an 'extra' in that flick as well as 'The Quick and the Dead' with Sharon Stone... also 'The Postman' with Kevin Costner/as well as 'Tin Cup' with Kevin Coster and Don Don Johnson...all fimed in Tucson/Tubac/Sonoita.
Val Kilmer is now a resident of the E Tucson Metro after his infamous 'Doc Holiday'.He lives not far from 'Gates Pass' which is just East of 'Old Tucson Studios'...just to my SSW.
I met Sharon Stone as she stayed at the famous 'Arizona Inn'.Paul MCCartney lives not far from here.Ringo is nearby as well as native Linda Ronstandt.
What a town this is!
We are infamous for more than the Monsoon.
Warren Faidley...a resident of the Sabino Canyon area used some photos of the Monsoon from 'Sparkey1in97' and myself from the AZ Storm Club at yahoo in the flick 'Twister'.This place is toooooo much fun!
