well its behaving exactly as I expected with regards to intensity. It's becoming a sheared mess with a large comma shaped. Just shows you that the Northern GOM just can't sustain true TCs so late in the season. Now had it targeted the U.S further south, say in South FL, the story could have been much different with less shear and warmer SSTs to work with. Still the season did go off with a bang I must say.

Could Ida and the other low be combining into the one low?

For all of those interested in El Salvador's disaster I have started a thread on the Recovery forum, here is the link:

Floods and mudslides in El Salvador the aftermath

Ida weaken very rapidly but it may still cause some serious problems. I'm surprised that the media has not covered Ida like I thought they would, at least in CNN and Fox wich are the news channels that I can watch here.

Keep in mind that the buoy you mentioned has its anemometer 122 m above the platform elevation (and the platform is probably a bit above the ocean surface). The WMO standard is 10 m above the surface.

Here is a link: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=42363

Another buoy at Southwest Pass in extreme southeast Louisiana (anemometer 24 m above the surface) has been reporting 32-35 kt sustained winds and gusts to 47 kt in the past hour.

Also, a ship at 28.0N 88.1W (about 90 miles north of the center) reported 40 kt sustained winds at 15z.

looks like some of the moisture from the feature to her west is getting entrained into her, helping her sustain what she has. I dont think they are combining.

This may be the pre-cursor to the slight strengthening phase that the GFDL and to some extent the HWRF showed at 06z. If that convection continues and/or deepens she could make a slight come back, doubtful, but possible.

Does that look like a feeder band approaching Mobile? Pensacola looks like it's getting feeder band activity right now. What's Ida's winds down to? Less than 70?

Getting some light misty rain now. A little breezy, but not much as of yet.
