WINDY CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST ACROSS THE REGIONAL WATERS AND THE SOUTH FLORIDA PENINSULA THROUGH THE EARLY PART OF NEXT WEEK. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO CREATE HAZARDOUS MARINE CONDITIONS ACROSS THE REGIONAL WATERS AND DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE ATLANTIC COAST BEACHES. TROPICAL STORM IDA IS FORECAST TO ENTER THE CENTRAL GULF BY TUESDAY. ALL INTERESTS SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF TROPICAL STORM IDA.

When is the wetter and cooler pattern going to ensue? I am sick of the heat and dryness so far this Fall in S Fl. This feels much more like La Nina!

I agree. I can't wait for the cooler weather to get here. I'm tired of just wind and heat!!

I'm a partial skeptic I believe the cooler part, not the rain part.Other than the 5 minute rain we had this morning I don't see us getting much rain during the next 2 weeks. This is more of a La Nina pattern for S FL.

Freezing here today at 68* The weather behind Ida pushed in. The storm's lingering overcast is keeping it cold because the sun can't get through.

I see that Orlando has not gotten out of the 50s yet this afternoon under overcast skies and a north wind. That must be quite a chilly shock after all the warm and humid weather you guys have been having recently!

Chamber of Commerce weekend across the Sunshine State....folks taking advantage of the sunny skies and pleasantly warm temp (low 80's) at Jupiter Inlet this afternoon.

This is the first year we havent had any fruit come from our backyard. Both the Orange tree and the tangerine tree may be taken down next year and replaced. Blah! I just bought some tangerines yesterday and I almost wanted to drop them on the floor when I got home. :(

Our grapefruit tree really did badly this year here too and the orange tree was 1/4 last year's bumper crop.

Hot enough to roast a turkey (almost) by the weekend in south florida with record highs quite possible (record high in Miami is 87 on Saturday's date and 86 on Sunday's date)....then temps returning to seasonal norms as we roll towards Turkey Day...meaning highs 80ish and lows in the mid to upper 60's.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MIAMI FL
638 PM EST WED NOV 18 2009

DISCUSSION...
TEMPERATURES WILL INCREASE 1-2 DEGREES PER DAY
THROUGH FRIDAY AS MOISTURE LEVELS ALSO SLOWLY INCREASE.

BY SATURDAY, SHORTWAVE TROUGH OVER TEXAS WILL SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF
A SURFACE LOW OVER THE NW GULF. THIS FEATURE WILL BEGIN TO SHIFT
LOCAL WINDS TO E AND SE ALONG WITH INCREASING MOISTURE AND
TEMPERATURES, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT.

MAIN STORY ON SUNDAY MAY BE THE HEAT AS SW FLOW WILL WARM EASTERN
SECTIONS OF SOUTH FLORIDA TO PERHAPS THE UPPER 80S.

THIS FRONT IS FORECAST TO STALL OVER SOUTH FLORIDA ON MONDAY, OR AT
BEST MAKE IT BARELY THROUGH THE PENINSULA. EITHER WAY, LINGERING
MOISTURE NEAR THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL KEEP A LOW CHANCE OF PRECIP
AREA WIDE...ALONG WITH TEMPERATURES BACK TO NEAR SEASONAL NORMALS
FOR MUCH OF THE PERIOD LEADING UP TO THANKSGIVING.

How many people feel that S FL will be warmer and drier than what the forecasts are saying for this winter.I don't see the pattern changing in the models so far out two weeks. So far its like a La Nina pattern that were stuck in.

The effects from an El Nino pattern does not usually happen until winter. I remember the very strong El Nino of I guess was 97. A series of strong lows came out of the Gulf and pounded Florida. What I call the Ground Hog day storm. Knocked over my Honda 1100 bike. Winds peaked around 50-60mph. The winds picked up my bike and tossed it over. Heavy bike. Can't remember how much it weighed. Anyways. You get my point.

Typically, the cooler conditions during an el nino winter are directly linked to the increase in cloud cover keeping daily high temps down. If you look at the data, low temperatures during an el nino winter are usually around normal. So, along those lines, if this turns out to be a drier el nino winter than one would expect, the temperatures will also respond and not be effected by cloudy day coolness.

One thing is for sure, with places like Naples having a year-to-date rainfall deficit of 20" and Fort Lauderdale's ytd rain deficit of 25", a wetter pattern would not be unwelcome. Maybe it's early, but October and November haven't even featured near normal rainfall....it's been dry, very dry.

It looks like conditions have begun to shape up for a great foggy night tonight. Tomorrow is forecast to be even worse. I would say isolated dense patches tonight, and scattered to widespread dense fog for tomorrow night.

We're in that same rainfall deficit pocket as Naples 40 miles up the coast from them.
