I cannot believe the amount of rain this system has been bringing.
Our islands are very fragile and even a sudden downpour from a hard thunderstorm can cause us much trouble and serious damage.
Be safe everyone!
This is a report on stormcarib.com from a weather corespondent in Culebra.

Culebra Gulley-Washer

* By "William Kunke" <wkunke at verizonmail.com>
* Date: Mon, 16 Nov 2009 09:38:12 -0400

Good Morning, Since 1:30 this morning Culebra has received 9.60
inches of rain, at times coming faster than two inches an hour.
This makes for a tremendous amount of run-off as our soil is
already saturated. This run-off turns the bay an ugly brown.

More rain is indicated on the radar and also is predicted for a
couple of days. Hopefully some of that will just slip by out in
the sea.

Stay Safe, William

No deaths nor injuries occured yesterday.Lets see what happens today. They say,the front is weakening but there is a combination of a upper trough with the front and that is the trigger. For St Marteen, you may bey some of this later today as it moves slowly eastward.

Here is the weather forecast of Meteo-France concerning the risk of strong showers/tstorms.

Synopsis and observations

A pretty large system accompanied with rain showers and tstorms is reaching the BVI islands, after he has crossed Puerto Rico. A strong line of tstorms added to a wind shift should concern our islands during the end of the morning.

Forecasts
Some tstorms and a few strong showers are forecasted during the next hours. With this passing front, the wind could shift from NO with gustywinds up to 60 kilometers per hour or even 70. The thunderstorm activity will be strong sometimes.
This type of perturbed weather should continue at least tommorow,Tuesday.

Summary
The risk of this feature is moderate.
The impact expected is weak or moderate.

Validity Duration of the feature
Till Tuesday morning.

Next weather forecast
Near 5H30 PM this afternoon.

From a correspondant on the weather site of stormcarib.com

- Updates from the Islands -

- Rain
By "El Quenepo Reservations" <reservations at elquenepovieques.com>
Date: Mon, 16 Nov 2009 10:15:29 -0400

It started last night around 10:00PM with loud booms of thunder. Sheets of rain fell with a great lightening show. I finally had to turn off the movie as the storm was too loud to hear the sound on the TV. Oh well. I snuggled in with a book. The rain continued all night. Heavy rain occurred around 2:00AM and continued all night until 6:45 AM. The plants are happy but it looks like a flood raced through the paths in the back garden.
It has just started to rain again. Thank goodness I had time to clean the gutters and sweep the wet leaves off the porch. I think that this means I should have another cup of coffee and focus on projects indoors. We should see rain most of the day. Be safe if your driving. Town should be dead so it might be a good time to go to the post office and the bank. No lines!

Have a good one,
K

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
1036 AM AST MON NOV 16 2009

.UPDATE...STRONG AREA OF PRE FRONTAL CONVERGENT SHEAR LINE AHEAD
OF COLD FRONT NOW OVER THE VIRGIN ISLANDS...ALIGNED SW/NE AND
SWEEPING INTO THE ANEGADA PASSAGE ATTM. VERY IMPRESSIVE RAINFALL
RATES AND ACCUMULATIONS CONTINUE THIS MORNING...WITH ST THOMAS
REPORTING 2.58 INCHES OF RAIN IN ABOUT ONE HOUR. SEVERAL PRODUCTS
OUTLINING THE HAZARDS EXPECTED HAVE BEEN ISSUED...AND FF WATCH HAS
BEEN UPDATED FOR TIMING. LATEST SATELLITE AND RADAR IMAGERY
SUGGESTING BEST CONVERGENCE TO REMAIN AWAY FROM THE ISLAND OF
PUERTO RICO TODAY...BUT NEWS IS BAD FOR ALL THE VIRGIN
ISLANDS...AND LEEWARD ISLANDS. EXPECT TORRENTIAL RAINFALL IN THOSE
AREAS...WITH FLASH FLOODING ALREADY REPORTED IN ST THOMAS...AND
LIKELY OCCURRING IN ST CROIX NOW. THESE STORMS PRODUCED RECORD
FLOODING AND SEVERAL PROBLEMS OVER THE SAN JUAN METRO AREA
YESTERDAY...AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE A VERY SERIOUS THREAT FOR A
FEW DAYS. IN FACT...MODELS SHOWING ANOTHER CONVERGENT
BAND...LIKELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE TRUE COLD FRONT TO SWEEP OVER
MAINLAND PR AND MOST OF THE USVI TOMORROW. MOVEMENT OF THE FRONT
IS EXPECTED TO BE SLOW AND ERRATIC...AND COULD EVEN BECOME
STATIONARY. THIS WILL PRESENT A VERY HIGH THREAT OF SERIOUS
FLOODING CONCERNS FOR TUESDAY OVER MOST OF THE FORECAST AREA. WILL
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE SITUATION THROUGHOUT THE DAY...BUT THIS
EVENT IS SHAPING UP TO THE STRONGEST FRONTAL HEAVY RAIN EVENT OF
THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS.
