First below 0F of the season

#1 Postby Scott Patterson » Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:25 am

Yesterday (November 14) was the first below zero of the season. It was -3F at the house and 0F officially downtown (we were actually out camping and it was a warmer 7F there).

Right now it is slightly warmer at -1F, so we're in a warming trend. Time to break out the shorts?

According to the weather forecasts it should turn much milder and nights might be as warm as 16 by later in the week, at least downtown:

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around -5. Calm wind.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 37. Calm wind.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 7. East southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 11. Calm wind.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 42.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Friday: A slight chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 43.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39.

I think it's going to get much colder than the -5F predicted tonight. At 10 pm, it's already -2F outside.

This morning Stanley ID was -7F, so beat us for the daily low for the Lower 48. Saturday morning Meeker just south of here had the nation's low (excluding AK) at -4F, so I'm guessing that we may have the nation's low tonight as we're currently colder than Stanley and Meeker by a good margin.

It appears the official low in the lower 48 was -7 at Lake Yellowstone. Looks like we just missed it.
