Updates from the Islands -
- - Dominica - -Rain, Plenty of It
By Tom Fullbrook <fullbrookt at gmail.com>
Date: Tue, 17 Nov 2009 08:28:36 -0400

Good morning everyone,
More than enough rain yesterday. Light showers on and off most
of the day, then at about 6 in the evening the thunder started to grumble
and rumble. Few good strong streaks of lightening. Then the heavens
opened and down came the rain. It rained for 3 hours or more non stop.
Seemed to come in from the South/East. Rain was pretty heavy. So all
you in mud slide areas take care. The large hole I have dug in the garden
filled rapidly and I had my swimming pool in minutes.
It's still grey this morning. Light showers. Breeze kicking in. Sea, not
so nice, looks grey and very uninviting. Humidity feels like it's going up.
Thunder started the neighbours dog barking, and he was just left to
get on with it. He's barked for 14 hrs. Even after all our time here I don't
think it's something we will ever get used to.
Looks like more rain heading across the ridge at the east of us. It
is getting very dark out there.
I'm off, have my coffee, check out the view. Watch the sea change
colour from the run off from the river's. Go with great care out there today
if your going out to sea, or your near a river. Watch for those boulders that
come rocketing down with no warning.
You all take care.

Tommiegirl.

Barbara, the worse of the bad weather has moved east of the islands and at the same time is weakening.Still some lingering humid air is in the area and will cause some scattered showers in parts of PR,VI and in the northern Leewards this afternoon.

The NWS in San Juan canceled the Flash Flood watch that was up for Puerto Rico as shower activity is far less than what the cretiria allows for a watch to be up so is good news as the rivers and creeks can continue to go down.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
319 PM AST TUE NOV 17 2009

.SYNOPSIS...ELONGATED LOW PRES NORTH OF THE AREA WILL CONTINUE TO
WEAKEN AS IT MOVES TO THE EAST SOUTHEAST. A MUCH DRIER AND STABLE
AIR MASS HAS MOVED INTO THE REGION AND WILL PERSIST INTO THE END
OF THE WEEK. MID LEVEL HIGH ACROSS THE WRN CARIBBEAN WILL BUILD
EASTWARD OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS AND SETTLE OVER THE REGION DURING
THE WEEKEND.

&&

.DISCUSSION...12Z JSJ SOUNDING WAS REALLY MORE REPRESENTATIVE OF
THE AIR MASS EAST OF THE USVI AS STRONG WESTERLIES CARRIED THE
BALLOON FURTHER EAST. A 12Z ACARS TEMP PROFILE FROM BORINQUEN AND
THE 12Z SANTO DOMINGO SOUNDING LIKELY TO BE MORE REPRESENTATIVE OF
THE AIR MASS CURRENTLY OVR PUERTO RICO. THE BORINQUEN SOUNDING
SHOWED A STOUT CAP THAT HAS STRENGHTEN/LOWERED TO 750MB AND A H5 TEMP OF
ONLY -2C. A RECENT 1850Z ACARS FROM SAN JUAN SHOWS ONLY -2C AT 550
MB. WATER VAPOR IMAGERY CONFIRMS THIS STRONG SUBSIDENCE.

FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS...FAIR WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED AS MID
LEVEL RIDGING STRENGHTENS AS MID LEVEL HIGH OVER THE WRN CARIBBEAN
BUILDS EAST. ANY CONVECTION FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS WILL BE SHALLOW
AND VERY LIMITED. HAVE REMOVED MENTION OF TSTMS FROM THE FCST.

Great msbee. Let's hope we all get "just" enough. :D (not too much please)

Here we still have some moderate rain in lots of small rainy episodes. The Island can handle it.

BTW Dominica is negotiating on a contract to export water to the other islands 8-)

Hi expat2carib, glad to see all these informations. A bit surprised  with the contract to export water to the other islands? That's nice good idea... with all these rivers :cheesy: that's not impossible no? :ggreen:
In Guadeloupe tkinks are more trigged... a strike is cooking steadily that does not smell good. Yesterday it was the rush to have some fuel. The LKP is not agree with all the points of the French Governement and they call for another huge strike next Tuesday 24th November. The big strike with the 44 days of "death island" (end of January till 3rd of March 2009) is always in all the heads :double:. Let's wait and see, but things are very worrying here. I will keep your informed as possible.
