Atlantic Lows - September Onwards-
If this is the wrong place can it be moved.
A big passion outside of mine is tracking and following Atlantic lows that batter the uk coast throughout the winter months.
More information click the link below
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_windstorm
since living on the Isle of Lewis this will be my 6th winter. I've seen winds of 105 mph and average wind speeds of 90 mph.
So I will be using these threads to track these lows and we've got one coming in for tuesday which im keep my eye on which could bring winds of 60 to 70 mph.
will keep this thread update through the winter.
any comments or feedback would be great

Kewl!! Where did the one due Tuesday originate from? I have always wondered what happens with our Atlantic storms that eventually move Eastward but have never taken the time to track them. past final advisories. We know at least some have made it that far from some other postings in the past.

Geez!!! How long is this expected to go on? Is it something that happens all winter long or all year long or what? And yes I do understand it isn't a constant.

after a sustained spell of high pressure dominated weather the Atlantic is roaring back into life this week with a low moving in for this weekend with possible gusts of 70 mph in the western isles of scotland and the north isles.

Forecasters Warning
Severe Gales
Affecting: Scotland, particularly the north and west.
Valid: 07:00 Saturday 03rd October - 12:00 noon Sunday 04th September 2009
This is a Weather Watch issued by Metcheck at 22:50 on Thursday 01st October 2009.
A deepening Atlantic low is forecast to track eastwards close to northern Scotland during Saturday and into early Sunday, bringing with it some wet and potentially very windy weather.
West/north-westerly gales are expected to develop during the day across northern and western Scotland, potentially becoming severe across the west with gusts of up to 70MPH likely. As the low moves away across the North Sea on Saturday night, there is the potential for north-westerly gales or severe gales to affect the Northern Isles, before gradually easing down on Sunday morning. Winds of this strength may cause structural damage and branches to come down from trees.
Heavy rain is also expected to fall, and combined with the winds this will result in making travelling conditions hazardous.
This Weather Watch will be updated tomorrow, Friday 02nd October
Issued by: P. Barber for Metcheck

No photos yet? I just can't imagine getting winds like that on a regular basis.

I had read about that in BBC News yesterday where north and east Scotland had some really
heavy rains and flooding, especially Aberdeenshire. There was a pic of one gentleman standing
at the door outside a home with water up to his thighs!

There is a monster storm being forecasted by the GFS for this coming weekend, Ireland looks like it will bare the brunt of it and most likely there'll be some trees down/flooding after recent wet weather.
