Maybe we can check this out when the season is over next year, but this is what the US Farmer's Almanac says for the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. An interesting note, per Wikipedia, about 80 to 85% of the annual forecasts are accurate. We shall see...
1) Possibility of a tropical disturbance in the southeast US in late May
2) A hurricane bringing rain to southeast and northeast US in late June
3) Hurricane threat for the southeast US in late August, possibly the same storm to threaten the Gulf Coast
4) Hurricane threat for southeast US during Labor Day weekend, later moving up toward northeast US
5) Tropical cyclone for the Mid-Atlantic states in late September

Shouldn't that be 2010 season? 2009 ATL season is almost over.

With the broad generalities to the Almanac's forecasts, it is not hard to see how they have 85% accuracy....take for example the forecast of a hurricane threat for the southeast around Labor Day. What that is saying at the peak of the season, there will be a hurricane somewhere in a location that could cause a possible threat (they didn't say landfall...the storm may threaten, but never strike) to somearea from Cape Hatteras to New Orleans. Gee, that's going out on a limb!
There forecast for late August 2010...hurricane threat for the southeast US in late August, possibly the same storm to threaten the Gulf Coast...sounds like an andrew, katrina, rita type track across florida then into the gulf. Also, what there forecast implies is that we will have a season that has storm threeats for 5 months in a row, covering every region on the atlantic and gulf coasts at some point. Hmm...the prospect of two back to back threats from late august to labor day weekend...we will see.....

I love reading the Farmer's Almanac, when I was a kid (80's) I used it as my primary resource for my amateur predictions. Very rare for the Almanac to say "Hurricane threat for the southeast US in late August, possibly the same storm to threaten the Gulf Coast" that really can only apply to a storm crossing SFL into the Gulf. Usually they just us the general "SE US threat" language. I guess I'll goto Home Depot and pull it off the rack and verify.

Re: Re:
In the synopsis, the Almanac said the 2009 hurricane season would 'be active, especially for florida'. They also called for a hurricane to hit the Central Gulf Coast and also the Northeast U.S. Not one of there better years for predictions.
