Re: Deep South Snow/Winterwx thread
We managed a37ºf at the house here. Record is 32ºf so we didn't approach it in the city proper.

39 here. We were forecasted to approach or tie the record of 35. Still, 30's in April is an impressive cold snap and the weather is just beautiful today with temps in the upper 50's.

Re: Deep South Snow/Winterwx thread
Snow flurries on and off all day so far here, and it's only 43 degrees at 1pm.
This is unreal. Avoided a freeze last night because of clouds/wind so that's good but don't think we'll be as lucky tonight. One night is better than two though.

I have a feeling this is going to be a interesting winter for the deep south, not even Halloween yet and we've already seen low 40's here in the panhandle of Florida. Think we might see some deep artic blasts this season.

Re: Deep South Snow/Winterwx thread
Meanwhile, Miami has a forecasted low of 80 deg tonight and 81 deg tomorrow night.....as we prepare to mark this month as the warmest October on record (highest average temp) with 14 days of 90+ deg so far and 8 nights so of 80+ deg. Needless to say, nothing in any way shape or form indicates a pattern of deep arctic blasts yet.
But since this is going to be an el nino winter, I wouldn't anticipate the levels of cold we saw at times just last winter down here. El nino winters are not knows for arctic surges in the sunshine state...rather, somewhat below normal temps (mainly daytime highs) due to more cloudcover and rainfall. With the rainfall deficits (19" since Jan 1 in Naples, 22" since Jan 1 in Fort Lauderdale) we are seeing....a wetter than normal winter is not only welcome, but will be key in avoding a rough fire season in the spring.

Re: Deep South Snow/Winterwx thread
I'm telling you, just take a look at the GFS model. With all these Gulf lows, the chances for snow in the Deep South are high this year. El Nino winters have great setups for this.

Re: Deep South Snow/Winterwx thread
Don't get too excited yet, but the same setup that gave us snow early last december seems to be happening yet again. Here is a snippet from this mornings afd....
THE UPPER LOW IS OVER EAST
TX WED MORNING AND MOVES ENE INTO THE KENTUCKY AREA BY WED EVENING
AS IT WILL OPEN UP INTO AN EVEN STRONGER AND EXTENSIVE UPPER
TROUGH. THIS SHOULD MOVE SOME OF THE COLDEST AIR OF THE SEASON
INTO THE AREA BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK.
THE BACK SIDE OF THE LOW WILL BE A COLD RAIN LATE TUE THROUGH TUE NIGHT AND
WED MORNING AND THIS SHOULD BE THE STORY FOR MUCH OF THE AREA. IF
ANY MIXED PRECIP DEVELOPS...IT WILL DEPEND ON WHERE THE UPPER LOW
MOVES LATE TUE NIGHT AND WED MORNING. WILL WATCH FOR THIS MAINLY
OVER THE NORTHERN PORTION OF THE AREA.
This is how it started last year with only mentioning possibilties of light mixed precip north. Then a chance of non accum. light snow for us. Of course everyone knows what happened after that...
Not holding my breath we will see snow again, but you never know.

With this El nino winter and all these Gulf lows, I think there will be many opportunities for snow along the Gulf states this winter

Hmm

On a side note, Wouldn't that be something for some light snow for the SEC game in ATL?

If that materializes we could see maybe some flurries all the way down into the Panhandle!
