Been snowing HEAVY here for the past half hour now..

Temp down to 33.1 degrees and dewpoint is the freezing mark and sticking on everything but he cement.. Precip now filling in, suspect we could have a couple inches before daybreak..

Quite surprising.. I was all about to give up on this storm. Glad I stuck with it and listed to myself...

Abilene

Temp is now officially below freezing.. 32.0 degrees and moderate snowfall.. Already about a quarter of an inch on the ground.. Precip is wrapping around nicely and should create more band until the main band (which is back in Lubbuck right now) comes through in a few hours...

Lucky, lucky. What were they predicting for Abilene 6-7 hours ago? If it was like the Dallas forecast maybe there is hope. Although i'm pretty sure Abilene always had snow in the forecast.

Well, last night they were calling off the storm and why I got so heated.. I mean, the models were screaming about this and they were basically saying that we would have an all rain even except for sweetwater.. This morning they basically began moving on to the next storm, however still focused on the rain aspect of the ULL..

It wasn't until about an hour and a half ago did they finally put about advisories that should have gone out a day ago..

Im not critisizing, I have always been a believer that a conservative approach to weather causes pain.. I would rather prepare for a storm that doesn't happen then to be ill prepared for if it does..

Exactly an inch of snow on the ground.. Still snowing moderately.. 6z NAM says that precip will be tapering off right after sunrise tomorrow.. Should make for a beautiful morning with a fresh 2 inches of snow..

Btw.. My satellite went out because the water on the dish froze when the temp dropped.. I climbed up on our ladder but couldnt reach the second dish successfully so Im without Television the rest of the night..

Oh well.. That is why man invented TIVO.. =)

I'll be happy if a little of the moisture just nudges a tad more north, just a tad. So we'll see even a better chance even though Dallas NWS is already warning about it, I'd like the moisture to be a little more certain here before I get too excited.

Dallas SPS

...SNOW EXPECTED FRIDAY FOR MUCH OF NORTH TEXAS...

A STRONG UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS NORTH TEXAS ON
FRIDAY. WITH A COLD AIRMASS ESTABLISHED OVER THE REGION...THE POTENT
UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE WILL TRIGGER AREAS OF SNOW ON FRIDAY.

FLURRIES WILL BE POSSIBLE LATE THURSDAY NIGHT AND EARLY FRIDAY
MORNING OVER FAR WESTERN SECTIONS OF NORTH TEXAS...GENERALLY ALONG
AND WEST OF A BOWIE TO WEATHERFORD TO LAMPASAS LINE. LITTLE TO NO
ACCUMULATION IS EXPECTED WITH THIS ACTIVITY.

HEAVIER SNOW WILL LIKELY DEVELOP BY THE MID MORNING HOURS FRIDAY AND
CONTINUE THROUGH THE EVENING...MAINLY SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 20.
PERIODS OF FLURRIES AND SOME LIGHT SNOW SHOWERS WILL ALSO BE
POSSIBLE FRIDAY IN THE IMMEDIATE DALLAS FORT WORTH METRO AREA.

LOCATIONS ALONG AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM CISCO TO HILLSBORO TO
PALESTINE WILL HAVE THE BEST CHANCE AT WITNESSING ACCUMULATING
SNOWFALL...WITH AROUND ONE INCH POSSIBLE. ISOLATED LOCATIONS MAY
RECEIVE UP TO 2 INCHES OF SNOW.

THIS EVENT CONTINUES TO DEVELOP. THE TIMING AND LOCATION OF THE
SNOWFALL...AS WELL AS EXPECTED ACCUMULATIONS MAY CHANGE OVER THE
COMING DAYS. PLEASE KEEP UPDATED WITH THE LATEST FORECASTS AND ANY
POSSIBLE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES FROM YOUR NATIONAL WEATHER

Now, here's some language in a Austin/San Antonio forecast discussion you don't see every day!

DUE TO ONGOING COLD ADVECTION, FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW A
MIX OF RAIN/SNOW EARLY, THEN ALL SNOW AS THE EVENT DEVELOPS.
CONFIDENCE IS BUILDING THAT THERE WILL BE SOME SNOW ACCUMULATION
ACROSS THE HILL COUNTRY AND PARTS OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS DUE TO
DEVELOPING CONSENSUS AMONG THE MODELS AND ENSEMBLES. FOR NOW, WILL
GO WITH UP TO 2 INCHES. HOWEVER, SOME MODELS/ENSEMBLES ARE SHOWING
UP TO 4 INCHES AND HPC IS INDICATING A SLIGHT RISK OF GREATER THAN
4 INCHES ACROSS THE EASTERN HILL COUNTRY TO NEAR THE AUSTIN AREA.
LATER FORECASTS MAY HAVE TO INCREASE THE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS AND
POSSIBLY ISSUE AN ADVISORY.

BTW Josh, congratulations! Glad you got to enjoy an early taste of winter. I hope we (Austin) can join in on that shortly.

Awesome hope it makes it down here I didn't notice it before, but the NWS discussion said that the NAM was showing the snow making it as far east as Dallas, but they were going to go with the forecast they had but would monitor it.

Temperature dropping quickly now in Dallas. Down to 37.5 degrees near downtown Dallas. Come on precip! Just in time for the rush?

Down to 37.0 now with a 34.9 dewpoint.

Denton, Forth worth, Sanger. Places like those all have snow in the forecast now 100%. Dallas doesn't....like I expect 15 miles to matter that much. I'm convinced I'll see a few flakes this morning. WOO.

I also love how all the news stations now act like they predicted this all along. It's so ridiculous, it's just as ridiculous as people saying the meteorologists doesn't know what he's doing cause he changed the forecast. Sometimes the models aren't always right, and instead of acting like they were right all along they should either not saying anything at all, or admit they made a mistake. Annoys me more than anything when they try to take credit for it.

Not all of them know much about weather , usually it's just a pretty face  the chief mets are the people I think with best communication with the nws and generally have a better understanding.

Are we at the point where we can say it will snow in southeast Texas just waiting to see who gets it and how much? I live in Deer Park, if anyone wants to chime in for my location.

NWS basically says it's just a matter of time before Dallas changes over. WOO. I can't wait this is a nice surprise.

wxgirl69 Snow still looks like it's going to happen in Houston, models have been very consistent.
