the days here are bright and clear . We could see St. Kitts yesterday which is about 65 miles away. And we had a gorgeous sunset last night.

Cams from Barbados.The cams album at the first post of thread keeps getting bigger.By having all these web cams,the members can see what is going on when a big weather event like a storm or hurricane occurs in any of the places the cams are located in the Caribbean and also in parts of Centralamerica.

The Christmas fresh breezes are blowing here meaning the normal less warm temperatures for this time of the year.Also the normal widely scattered showers moving with the flow from the eastnortheast will move thru.

I know that the thread is almost dead now,but is normal the less postings as all is tranquil and the hurricane season is over.Things will pick up here for sure as soon there is a big weather event,meaning stalled cold fronts or troughs and of course as hurricane season 2010 draws closer.

You're right Cycloneye, but we all appreciate your contribution for this nice thread :). As usual let's keep a small eye what could happen in the tropics even if the hurricane season is over...

Yes,even if all is fine weatherwise,we have to watch what is going on with the Soufriere volcano,also big wave events normal for this time of year and more so we still can come and continue this thread running. :)

Absolutely, agree with you :) and shoul i add earthquakes too as we're experienced a couple of small quakes Monday afternoon in Guadeloupe. Hpopefully nothing occur in terms of damages, just a "good" skake felt, definitely something to watch.

Good morning to all the Caribbean and Centralamerican friends.I was not going to post discussions from the San Juan NWS every day during the off hurricane season period until big weather events occured.But choppy seas will occur during the next few days so those who venture out to sea better be careful or stay in port.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
415 AM AST THU DEC 3 2009

.SYNOPSIS...BROAD RIDGING ALOFT WILL DOMINATE THE AREA INTO NEXT
WEEK. SFC RIDGE NORTH OF THE AREA WILL MAINTAIN A TIGHT PRES
GRADIENT ACROSS THE ERN CARIBBEAN RESULTING IN BREEZY CONDITIONS
AND AN INCREASE IN NOCTURNAL SHOWER ACTIVITY.

&&

.DISCUSSION...WHILE RIDGING ALOFT WILL MAINTAIN A SUBSIDENCE CAP
INTO NEXT WEEK...MODELS SHOW DEPTH OF MOISTURE INCREASING UP TO
600 MB FRI AND ESPECIALLY ON SAT. MODELS ALSO SHOW A SFC TROUGH
MOVING ACROSS THE AREA FRI NIGHT/EARLY SAT THAT SHOULD ENHANCE THE
SHOWER ACTIVITY ACROSS PR ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT/EARLY MORNING HOURS
ACROSS NORTHEAST SECTIONS. HAVE RAISED POPS TO NMRS THESE TWO
DAYS. MOISTURE DECREASES FOR SUN AND INTO NEXT WEEK BUT STILL
ANTICIPATE ISOLD CVRG. IT WILL ALSO BE BREEZY WITH SOLID 20 KT
WINDS ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS AND DURING THE DAY AT
COASTAL LOCATIONS.

OVERALL...ANTICIPATE MORE SHOWER ACTIVITY AT NIGHT THAN DURING THE
DAY AND MAINLY AFFECTING THE EASTERN HALF OF THE ISLAND.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR CONDITIONS WITH BRIEF PASSING SHRAS.

&&

.MARINE...SEAS EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO BETWEEN 7-8 FT ACROSS
AMZ710 LATE FRI AND THESE CONDITIONS PERSIST WELL INTO NEXT WEEK.
WINDS WILL ALSO BE GUSTY WITH GUSTS IN THE 20-25 KT RANGE.
EXERCISE CAUTION STATEMENTS IN EFFECT NOW BUT SCA WILL BE REQUIRED
WITH THE NEXT CWF ISSUANCE.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
515 AM AST FRI DEC 4 2009

.SYNOPSIS...SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE ACROSS THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC WILL
MAINTAIN A TIGHT PRESSURE GRADIENT ACROSS THE FA FOR THE NEXT FEW
DAYS. THIS FEATURE WILL RESULT IN BREEZY CONDITIONS ACROSS THE LOCAL
ISLANDS. MID TO UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE OVER EASTERN CUBA WILL ACT
TO LIMIT THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE REGION DURING THE NEXT
SEVERAL DAYS.

&&

.DISCUSSION...THE HIGH PRESSURE RIDGE AT MID TO UPPER LEVEL OF THE
ATMOSPHERE WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE DOMINANT WEATHER FEATURE...
ACTING TO LIMIT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY AND
PRODUCING TRANQUIL AND PLEASANT WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS THE
LOCAL ISLANDS. IN FACT...WATER VAPOR IMAGES THIS MORNING...INDICATED
A LACK OF MOISTURE ACROSS THE NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN. A SURFACE HIGH
PRESSURE ACROSS THE CENTRAL ATLANTIC IS MAINTAINING A TIGHT
PRESSURE GRADIENT AND THEREFORE BREEZY CONDITIONS ACROSS THE
NORTHEAST CARIBBEAN. THIS PREVAILING BREEZY NORTHEASTERLY WIND
FLOW HOWEVER...WILL TRANSPORT PATCHES OF LOW LEVEL MOISTURE ACROSS
THE LOCAL ISLANDS FROM TIME TO TIME...PRODUCING BRIEF PERIODS OF
ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWER ACTIVITY ACROSS EASTERN AND NORTHERN
PUERTO RICO DURING THE NIGHTS AND EARLY IN THE MORNING. THIS
MOISTURE WILL COMBINE WITH DAYTIME HEATING AND LOCAL EFFECTS TO
INDUCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF MOSTLY SCATTERED SHOWERS AND POSSIBLE A
COUPLE OF SHORT-LIVED THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS WESTERN AND
SOUTHWESTERN PUERTO RICO. THIS SCENARIO IS A TYPICAL WEATHER
PATTERN FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.

THE GFS MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAN AN AREA OF MOISTURE...
ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANTS OF AN OLD FRONTAL BOUNDARY...WILL MOVE
ACROSS THE REGION TONIGHT AND TOMORROW...SLIGHTLY INCREASING THE
CHANCES OF SHOWERS ACROSS THE FA. IN AGREEMENT WITH THIS REASONING
THE GFS FORECAST SOUNDING INDICATED AN STEADILY INCREASE IN PWAT
VALUES FROM A LOW VALUE OF 1.20 INCHES EARLY THIS MORNING TO A
MODEST VALUE OF 1.82 INCHES BY TOMORROW MORNING. A RETURN TO THE
TYPICAL DECEMBER WEATHER PATTERN IS EXPECTED AGAIN BY SUNDAY.

A SURGE OF NORTHEASTERLY WIND WAVES WILL RAISE SEAS OVER THE
OFFSHORE ATLANTIC...ANEGADA PASSAGE AND OFFSHORE CARIBBEAN WATERS
THIS EVENING THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

&&

.AVIATION...MAINLY VFR CONDS EXPECTED ACROSS ALL TERMINAL AERODROME
OVERNIGHT. BRIEF INTERVALS OF PASSING LOW TO MID LEVEL CLDS BTWN
025-070 KFT AND A FEW LIGHT TO MODERATE TRADE WIND SHOWERS WILL MOVE
ACROSS THE FLYING AREA BTW 04/07Z-04/12Z. SOME MAY CAUSE BRIEF MVFR
CONDS MAINLY ALONG THE NORTHEAST AND EAST COASTAL SECTIONS OF PR...
AND ADJACENT ISLANDS TO INCLUDE THE USVI...BUT SHOWER WILL BE FAST
MOVING. GENERAL WIND FLOW SFC-25 KFT FROM TE NORTHEAST AT 10-20 KTS.

&&

.PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
SJU 86 75 85 74 / 40 40 40 30
STT 86 77 86 76 / 30 30 30 20

It looks like a more wet pattern for the NE Caribbean starting tonight in lapses during the at least the next 7 days.Also the fresh breeze will continue refreshing the temperatures.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN JUAN PR
405 PM AST FRI DEC 4 2009

.SYNOPSIS...AT UPPER LEVELS...A RIDGE WILL EXTEND TO THE NORTHEAST ACROSS
HISPANIOLA THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND THEN LEAN OVER THE LOCAL AREA
THROUGH THE BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK. THIS RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE
WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF THE WEEK FROM JUST SOUTH OF CUBA TO
PUERTO RICO AND THE LOCAL CARIBBEAN WATERS.

AT MID LEVELS...HIGH PRESSURE JUST NORTHEAST OF THE BAHAMAS WILL
BUILD EAST OVER THE WEEKEND WITH A CENTER NORTHEAST OF THE U.S.
VIRGIN ISLANDS BY MONDAY AND THEN SLIDE SOUTH OVER THE LOCAL AREA
DURING THE REST OF THE WEEK. MOISTURE BELOW 500 MB WILL SPREAD
OVER THE AREA TONIGHT WITH A DRY EPISODE BETWEEN SATURDAY NIGHT
AND SUNDAY NIGHT.

AT LOWER LEVELS...A BAND OF MOISTURE WILL ARRIVE OVERNIGHT AND
SPREAD SHOWERS OVER THE NORTHEAST THIRD OF THE ISLAND. SOME
SHOWERS WILL ALSO OCCUR INLAND DURING THE AFTERNOON SATURDAY.

&&

.DISCUSSION...A DISTINCT WESTWARD MOVING LOW-LEVEL PERTURBATION IS
CURRENTLY PASSING TO THE SOUTH OF PUERTO RICO WITH SCATTERED
SHOWERS. TOPS ARE FAIRLY LOW AND SO THUNDERSTORM ARE UNLIKELY.
ANOTHER BAND OF MOISTURE IS APPROACHING AT ABOUT 10 KNOTS FROM THE
NORTHEAST AND WILL ARRIVE IN THE NORTHERN VIRGIN ISLANDS BETWEEN 9
AND 11 PM TONIGHT AND ON THE NORTHEAST COAST OF PUERTO RICO BETWEEN
1 AND 3 AM AST...BY LINEAR EXTRAPOLATION. THE NAM SHOWS THIS BAND
DISTINCTLY BUT BRINGS IT ON SHORE IN PUERTO RICO 3 TO 4 HOURS
EARLIER. THIS BAND SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH MOISTURE TO BRING SHOWERS
TO NEARLY ALL OF THE USVI AND NORTHEAST PUERTO RICO AND THE
EASTERN COAST WITH SHOWERS HAVING LESS PROBABILITY TO THE WEST.
THE NAM ALSO HAS A SECOND BAND OF SHOWERS MOVING THROUGH THE
ISLANDS DURING THE DAY SATURDAY...THOUGH AT THE MOMENT THIS IS LESS
EVIDENT ON SATELLITE IMAGERY. THE UPPER LEVEL LOW NEAR 20 NORTH
AND 42 WEST APPEARS TO HAVE AT LEAST SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE
MOISTURE THAT IS PEELING OUT OF THE AREA AND MOVING IN THE
NORTHEAST FLOW OVER THE AREA IN DIFFUSE BANDS. DUE TO THE HIGH
PRESSURE THAT CONTINUES TO THE NORTH THESE BANDS OF MOISTURE
SHOULD CONTINUE DURING MUCH OF THE WEEK...THOUGH THE BEST
PROBABILITY OF RAIN APPEARS TO COME TONIGHT AND TOMORROW...AT
LEAST FOR THE WINDWARD SLOPES OF THE LOCAL ISLANDS. RAIN AMOUNTS DURING
THE NEXT 24 HOURS COULD REACH OVER ONE INCH IN ISOLATED MOUNTAIN
AREAS...BUT MOST COASTAL AREAS IN THE NORTHEAST SHOULD RECEIVE
BETWEEN ONE TENTH AND ONE QUARTER INCH. AMOUNTS OF LESS THAN ONE
QUARTER INCH ARE EXPECTED IN THE NORTHERN VIRGIN ISLANDS.

SOUNDING SHOWS LITTLE MOISTURE ABOVE 10 THOUSAND FEET AND THIS IS
SERVING AS A GREAT INHIBITOR TO TALL CONVECTION...NEVERTHELESS
SHOWERS IN UNSTABLE AIR OVER SOUTHWEST PUERTO RICO JUST NORTH OF
THE CORDILLERA CENTRAL REACHED CORE INTENSITIES OF 57 DBZ ON NWS
DOPPLER RADAR...IN SPITE OF HAVING TOPS OF ONLY 18 THOUSAND FEET.
EXPECT THIS TREND TO CONTINUE IN THE ABSENCE OF ANY NEARBY UPPER
LEVEL LOWS.

&&

.AVIATION...SOME MVFR IS LIKELY IN THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AS THE BAND
OF MOISTURE MOVES THROUGH THE AREA TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. MVFR
CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE AT TJSJ AFTER 05/04Z AND THROUGH 05/14Z.
MOUNTAIN OBSCURATIONS SHOULD BE EXPECTED OVER PUERTO RICO AT ANY
TIME.

&&

.MARINE...WINDS AND SEAS HAVE INCREASED OVER THE LOCAL AREA DUE TO
THE EAST NORTHEAST FLOW. SEAS HAD ALREADY REACHED 7.5 FEET EVERY 8
SECONDS AT THE BUOY 41043 NORTH NORTHEAST OF THE AREA AND THESE
WAVES WILL BE ENTERING THE LOCAL AREA SHORTLY. SEAS WILL CONTINUE
ELEVATED THROUGH SUNDAY AND MAY RETURN ON TUESDAY.
