12z GFS, the Christmas storm is wet... very wet... but look at this:

Beyond that an Arctic front clears Florida and brutally cold air invades the entire east.

I think people in the SE that like cold weather are going to love the last half of December. With a setup like the models showing, I wouldn't be surprised to see it get even colder in some places than what's being depicted.

So, does that mean we might get some snow next week in the Deep South?

That is a depiction of the 28th time frame, week after next. It is also beyond 10 days out and 1 run of 1 model so I would not get overly hopeful on it. If it keeps this type forecast going, showing consistency and other models begin to chime in with the same type scenario and we get 5 days out then I would start getting more concerned with it possibly taking place.

Maybe, maybe not. Too early to tell. There is a chance but I wouldn't be getting my hopes up too high yet, the models have been good at being inconsistent, and nothing is nailed down yet.

This was posted on Accuweather.com for my extended local forecast for Christmas night. Are the models showing something which indicate that my area might see some snow late on Christmas night?

Friday Night, Dec 25
Low: 32 °F RealFeel®: 26 °F
Partly cloudy and cold; a flurry or two late

I'm beginning to feel pretty confident that the south will see some sort of measurable snowfall durring the next two weeks. models have been very consistant in bringing an arctic high into the southeast and sending waves of moisture through it. it might not happen on Christmas day but i think it will happen around that time frame.

So... is this winter storm coming in Friday/Saturday looking to pan out for NC? I am in the Foothills and the local weather seems to think we could get quite a bit in this neck of the woods.

You look to be in the bullseye. I think the higher elevations could see a foot of snow.

You were right Brent  :) :cold: We are under a warning for 12-16 inches of snow. I'm right below Boone.
