The Dvorak P-W relationship in the area for 920mb is about 120 kt, but since it was a pretty small storm with a tight core, it was surely much stronger than that - an Atlantic estimate (920mb = 140 kt) seems more reasonable.

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH
A Cyclone WARNING continues for coastal areas from Bidyadanga to De Grey and
adjacent inland parts including Telfer, Cotton Creek, Marble Bar and Nullagine.
A Cyclone WATCH continues for inland parts of the eastern Pilbara extending
further to the WA border and including Warburton and Giles.
At 8:00 pm WST Severe Tropical Cyclone Laurence was estimated to be
30 kilometres southeast of Wallal and
235 kilometres east of Port Hedland
moving south southeast at 11 kilometres per hour.
Severe Tropical Cyclone Laurence crossed the east Pilbara coast at 5pm near
Wallal. VERY DESTRUCTIVE winds with gusts to 285 kilometres per hour are being
experienced near the cyclone centre, and will extend inland tonight. People in
the coastal areas are specifically warned of the DANGEROUS STORM TIDE. Tides are
likely to rise significantly above the normal high tide mark with DAMAGING WAVES
and DANGEROUS FLOODING.
DESTRUCTIVE winds with wind gusts to 150 kilometres per hour are expected to
extend inland overnight and during Tuesday, possibly reaching as far inland as
Telfer. GALES with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may be occurring along
other parts of the coast between Bidyadanga and south towards De Grey and will
extend well inland during Tuesday and Wednesday, reaching the vicinity of Giles
and Warburton by Wednesday afternoon or evening.
Heavy rainfall is falling between De Grey and Sandfire and extends inland with
rainfall totals in excess of 300 mm likely near the track including the far
eastern parts of the De Grey river catchment. Falls may exceed 100 mm across
remaining parts of the De Grey River catchment. Heavy rainfall is expected to

ready to shelter from a cyclone.
BLUE ALERT: People in or near Cotton Creek need to prepare for cyclonic weather

spare batteries, food and water.
ALL CLEAR: People in areas Port Hedland to De Grey and Bidyadanga are advised

A Cyclone WARNING is current for the far east of the Pilbara and the northwest
and central Interior, including Cotton Creek, Warburton and Giles.
At 8:00 pm WST Tropical Cyclone Laurence was estimated to be
20 kilometres west of Cotton Creek and
115 kilometres south southeast of Telfer
moving southeast at 23 kilometres per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Laurence is currently in the vicinity of Cotton Creek in the
far eastern Pilbara moving southeast. DESTRUCTIVE winds with gusts to 130
kilometres per hour are possible at Cotton Creek and Punmu until midnight
tonight.
Laurence should continue weakening on Wednesday although GALES with wind gusts
to 100 kilometres per hour may extend towards the NT/SA border reaching the
vicinity of Giles and perhaps Warburton during Wednesday aftenoon.
Heavy rainfall is falling over the eastern Pilbara with rainfall totals in
excess of 100 mm possible near the south side of the track. Heavy rainfall
should contract to the Interior overnight and extend to the NT/SA border region
during Wednesday.
