Marietta and Ardmore, Oklahoma are under those blizzard warnings...only about 35 miles NW of me. I've lived in the Sherman/Denison area for 30+ years and I don't think I've ever seen blizzard warnings hoisted by the NWS.

I was wondering about it earlier, I doubt it will simply cut off those conditions because you're 35 miles from it. FW nws is probably going conservative.

Lol yeah just like I'm 10-15 minutes at most from Fort worth and they're calling for 1-3 inches, but only up to an inch for me. Lol.

Why am I getting this bad feeling about this storm....... The radar looks to have it falling apart a little fast. Anyone else see this? Just anxious I guess.

It does look like the air might be getting a little drier around the Denton County area, but it's still early, that whole system is going to have to move through here.

The radar still looks pretty good to me, it even looks like behind the low the moisture is wrapping around further south, which is good news.

I use http://www.intellicast.com/National/Radar/Current.aspx?animate=true

mainly to get a feel of what the system as a whole is doing, because it sometimes looks a little more impressive than it is.

Then I use this one to get more local

Just as you asked snow is now picking back up, and it's blowing pretty good in the wind. We did have a period of very very very light snow, it appears another little snow shower is moving through now though.

I think some of that is because IMO the NWS radar doesn't always pick up lighter snowfall rates very well. That's why I generally watch Intellicast's radar during winter weather events.

And I think I seem to remember during the Valentine's Day snowstorm a few years ago that NWS actually converted the Web site radar we look at to a somewhat different mode that shows snow a little bit better.

BTW, if you look at the Intellicast radar, there are still snow and mixed precip echoes all the way back to SW Texas. The main action is up in our part of the world, but that's still a long ways away.

And I noticed that OKC NWS extended the blizzard warnings for south-central Oklahoma and NW North Texas until 10 p.m. tonight.

What are the chances of ANYTHING scrounging its way down to the Austin/San Antonio area (where I am for the Holidays)? Definitely wish the family lived up in DFW at this point! :-)

This really is crazy I've never seen it switch so much between rain, and snow. Everytime I look out the window it's something different. I'm sure it'll make up it's mind soon, but wow. Right now it's mostly rain, and by the time I send it, I'm sure it'll be snow.

Edit: Those are amazing pictures msstateguy!

Not sure.

And it isn't etched in stone yet that the DFW area will get anything very significant. There may be that darned dry slot to deal with. :grr: I am starting to get a little concerned about that...

Not an official forecast, but IMO, north of the Red River, almost certainly a historical Christmas Eve snow event. South of the Red River to I-20, probably a good snow event. South of I-20, keep your fingers crossed.

Patience folks. The Low is ramping up now. Looking at WV and radar imagery some good dynamics are unfolding W of the DFW area. Snow is building back into San Angelo with the slow movement of the system. I aslo noticed Shreveport just issued a Winter Weather Advisory.
