I'll be keeping an eye on the san angelo and abilene stations as they appear to have the same temp, but abilene with lt snow.

I've noticed San Angelo's dewpoint is at 33 degrees...doesn't look like much cooling for that.

I not a met so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wet-bulbing will cause the temps to fall about half-way between the pre-precipitation temperature and dew point. Right now it is 36 in Dallas with a dew point at 30 so a 2-3 degree temperature drop can be expected when the precipitation starts.

Im not sure exactly how the dew point drops, I think usually with dry air in place. But yes the temperature drops closer to the dew point as moisture pulls in and the temperature cannot drop lower than the dew point.

Lol is something going on in San Angelo? It seems like there is a little circle around them where it just won't snow. Like a little heat island, or something.

Yeah looks like its headed right towards us although I'd imagine it'll weaken some as the models have been hinting, but so far it's held up nicely.

Remember the heavy snow the falls and okc got, I remember the heavy precip developing with embedded thunder down here and the low pulled it north into their areas where it just sat and snowed lights out.

No sleet in downtown Austin at 9:30 a.m. but a cold, light rain. Temp is 43 degrees.

I haven't heard/seen any sleet reports yet from the hills west of town but they must be coming in based on what our local NWSFO says.

THAT HEAVY PRECIP WILL COOL THE LOWER LEVELS NICELY, SHOULD DROP TEMPS FASTER AND EARIER THAN FORCASTED, MAY ALSO HELP TO INCREASE SNOW TOTALS ACROSS DFW. CURRENT TEMP IS 35 DEGREES IN DT FTW :ggreen:

I don't understand lol it's 36 with a 34 dewpoint in Midland and it's been snowing all morning yet San Angelo is cooler\relatively the same on both fronts and are in a rain donut hole.

This may bode well for y'all up north but reports now coming in of sleet falling in SW Austin and northwest of town in Cedar Park. Snow flurries reported out in Fredericksburg. We weren't supposed to get ANY sleet.

I wouldn't get too excited yet because these are just sporadic reports but it still shows this system is a bit more stout and perhaps colder in the lower levels of the atmosphere than projected.

I work in North Austin and we were getting some light sleet mixed in with the rain about 15 minutes ago.

BTW, welcome to S2K! Great to have another Austin-area member. Yeah you may have seen my more recent post. Sleet being reported just southwest and northwest of the city proper.

Keep us posted Portastorm. Radar suggests sleet falling along the I-10 corridor near San Antonio as well as the I-35 corridor.
