As of 8 pm, looks like the front is through Lubbock/Plainview/Vernon and has pretty much cleared the Panhandle ... chugging south!

Based on what some pro mets have said on here earlier, I would say it should be near or in your area by 6 a.m.

Curious insights from NWSFO Brownsville tonight. Here's a portion of their AFD:

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BROWNSVILLE TX
851 PM CST WED JAN 6 2010

.UPDATE...TIMING OF THE STRONG FRONT IS THE MAIN CONCERN FOR THIS
EVENING UPDATE. CURRENT OBS SHOW FRONT EXTENDING FROM NORTHEAST
OKLAHOMA TO WICHITA FALLS TO SOUTH OF LUBBOCK. SATELLITE LOOPS
SHOW A MORE SOUTH PUSH AT THIS TIME WITH THE CORE OF THE COLD AIR
FUNNELING DOWN THE FRONT RANGE OF THE ROCKIES. THE FRONT IS
CURRENTLY MOVING SOUTH AT AROUND 30 MPH. MOMENTUM AND PRESSURE
RISES OF 4 TO 6 MB PER HOUR SHOULD KEEP THE FRONT MOVING AT ITS
PREVAILING SPEEDS WHICH WOULD PUSH THE FRONT THROUGH OUR NORTHERN
AND WESTERN COUNTIES BETWEEN 6 TO 8 AND SOUTHEAST COUNTIES 8 AM
TO 11 AM. THIS IS A LITTLE FASTER THEN LATEST MODEL RUNS.

Maybe freezing drizzle! YAY. But the nam only goes out 84 hours, so it doesn't go to next week yet. I still have high hopes for next week, but It'd be nice if the GFS started coming in track with the EURO.

San Angelo Update...

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN ANGELO TX
844 PM CST WED JAN 6 2010

.UPDATE...
WINDS ARE QUITE STRONG BEHIND THE ARCTIC COLD FRONT WHICH WAS
ENTERING HASKELL AND THROCKMORTON COUNTIES AS OF 830 PM. WE ARE
SEEING WIND GUSTS OF 30 TO 40 KNOTS ACROSS THE PANHANDLE BEHIND
THE FRONT WITH SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 KNOTS AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS.
WE HAVE INCREASED THE WIND SPEED FORECAST FOR THE OVERNIGHT HOURS
AND DECIDED TO ISSUE A WIND ADVISORY TONIGHT AS WELL. WILL
CONTINUE TO WATCH THE FREEZING DRIZZLE THREAT OVERNIGHT. STILL
EXPECTING ANY PRECIP TO BE VERY LIGHT AND SHORT-LIVED WITH NO
SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATION. HOWEVER WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE
20S...ROAD SURFACES WILL BE VERY COLD AS WELL AND COULD SEE SOME
SLICK SPOTS ON BRIDGES.

LOW LEVEL MOISTURE INTO THE AREA. PWS HAVE INCREASED TO AROUND
0.75 INCH AND ARE FORECAST TO INCREASE TO AROUND 1.1 INCHES

I'll be on the look out for Freezing drizzle tonight/early morning. Should be interesting maybe there will be just enough where I can slide down the sidewalk, but not enough to cause a lot of wrecks.

Good thing too. At this rate, there are probably going to be several more winter weather events before winter is through. Because of this, if Im going to miss school, it better be for a big one, than something like this that may just barely fit the criteria at best. I dont want to make up a lot at the end of the year, so if Im gonna get a snow day, it better be a good one haha.

Begun the Cold War has....... :cold:

I think the front just hit Denton. My door on the North side of my apartment just went "thud" and when I went outside the wind is out of the north.

Wish everyone the best with the cold, hope things go ok for you. Time to crank up the heat. :cold:
