Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)

Have to see it on the ECMWF before I get excited...540 thicknesses line still way north...not sure why the GFS has 850 mb 0C way south...seems too cold.

I was thinking the same thing,as much as I want to get excited for this, the temp profiles on the GFS look just abit fishy...

Got down to at least 12 this morning in Denison. Cold, cold, cold!

OT: Portastorm, I feel your pain. Thought the 'Horns did all they could do without Colt at the helm. Three minutes to go, down by three, and they had the ball with a chance to win. Proud of 'em, really proud of Colt for the way he handled himself and the things that he said after the game. Classy, classy kid - a real winner in my book. Hook 'em!

Now maybe we'll both get a snowstorm soon to ease our BCS title game pain!!

When it comes to Championships I'll cheer for any team in Texas no matter what biased school I have =P. Would love to see our kids\friends from the state bring home a trophy. In the mix of tradition, fanfare, and hatred rivalries we forget it's about the students who play. Sorry off topic! Yikes hockey that's cold!

Yeah, the only reason I know about that city is my brother had an ARMY buddy stationed up that way. Told him to look at that city if you ever want to see cold.

I have 50 acres in Loma Alta. Wish I could get out and head up that way and have a look see.

A 99-year-old woman has died in a house fire in Newton County and the sheriff believes the fire may be linked to her effort to stay warm in the freezing temperatures. 2 other people died in a house fire in Channelview, but no mention of the cause.

Thanks for posting this SG As a retired fire fighter I saw a lot of needless deaths due to improper heating equipment as well as Carbon Monoxide Poisoning during the 83 and 89 events. Also, please be very careful in the days ahead. We are facing a very serious Wild Fire danger due to all the dead vegetation from the freezes. With humidity and dew points so low these type of fires can spread rapidly. This threat will continue into early spring as well.

Here in Del Rio, was an exercise in futility, got excited for some flurries for just a bit, but radar echoes basically broke up as they approached from the northwest. No snow.. just gonna be freaking cold tonight. To be expected here at home on my Davis weather station have a dewpoint of 12.

Both the EC and GFS from time to time continue to advertise cut off lows/upper level low systems for that time frame-ish. We'll probably find out as we get closer. I have a feeling if there is any cold side to this storm (which looks to be very potent) whoever is in it will get a big surprise.

That isn't cold, that isn't even frigid. That is just pure BRUTAL AND UNFIT FOR HUMAN EXISTENCE!!!
Will definitely be watching the models closely re: the possible nest upcoming weekend weather! Looking interesting since it seems to have "matured" in its' look over the last few runs. It looks like it will be a very potent system wherever it goes and even if it doesn't verify as winter precip.

I've noticed that, the Austin\SA weather service seems to think some kind of a storm is coming I bet it's probably an error of some sort.
