Digital thermometer on back porch had low of 36.5* here on Sanibel last night. Had to take some plants in and will again tonight. Sun breaking through should give us a few extra degrees today.

Yesterday was record low daytime high for me here at 42*. :cold:

West of Lake Worth, Florida.....

I put out a little bit of water last night in hopes of showing my kids some ice. No luck. I checked around 7 AM at the low point. But, my thermometer (not digital and very cheap) showed 28 degrees on my patio. I don't believe that. In any case, it is cold. FPL turned off my heat and water heater for 2 hours ( on-call plan) just after I had a 1.5 hour power outage. The house got down to 65. Which isn't too bad.
I just read that the crops are doing OK. That is a relief to hear. Agriculture is a HUGE industry in Florida. If the citrus industry escapes with minimal damage, the juice should be great this year.

Going for record lows tonight here in St. Pete.

St. Pete and Tampa have both tied or broken records for the time period of this chill. Both sites have been under 60 for 8 consecutive days, and are forecast for 2 more.

i keep seeing indications of a big and juicy gulf low taking shape by next weekend. hopefully we can be tracking a squall line by then instead this relentless freezing weather. with the coastal waters so cold, any attempt to advect warm humid air up here is going to really fog us in on the west coast.

The dry part of the front has pushed over us. We're probably going to freeze tonight. Porch plants are inside. Bouganvilla is cold shocked and wilted. 39* right now.

30 degrees here in St. Pete at this hour with a heavy frost! I'm very sure it made it into the 20's this morning.

Winds stayed up in the Orlando area which helped the temps not get any lower than the upper 20s in the suburbs, near 30 in the heart of the City, but many spots saw temps near or below freezing for a good 9-10 hrs enough to cause widespread damage to tropical plants. My Royal palm trees have gotten a good beaten, but temps have not gotten that low to kill them. I did not take any chances with my Christmas Palm trees, so I wrapped them up pretty good and with Christmas lights, leafs are still green.
One more night of least upper 20s for lows, this got to be a record for Orlando with temps near or below freezing with so many nights in a row, with the expected one or two more nights to go of freezing wx.
I looked back to '96 records with the last real cold snap, temps did get lower than now but it was only one or two nights with temps in the 20s, it quickly bounced back.

Yeah, this cold snap is definitely not the most extreme central Florida has ever dealt with, but it is definitely one of the most prolonged the area has ever seen. By the time it ends, many areas will have not gotten above 60F for almost two straight weeks. Considering the average high in central Florida is near 70F this time of year, that is quite an amazing stretch of cold!

Yeah, I think it has been since New Years day the last time Orlando saw 60 degrees or higher, is probably going to be until at least Wednesday or Thursday before we see 60 or higher, Friday & Sat back to near or above average.

Good times! :cold:

Can't get the house to heat above 68*, office has no heat. My hands are freezing as I type..inside..

It's been a great cold spell, but it's just about time for it to be 80* already again. And that would be fine with me! :sun:

Gulf saved us. Only 35.6* as a low last night. Bright sun cutting the cold today and warming the living room. Hard to get electric heat to pull the temperature up in the house. A good wood stove would solve that problem quick but I don't know how palm trunks burn?

78* on Saturday with 62* as a low.

NWS is reporting that Kenneth City got down to 27 last night, which ties the lowest temperature I have seen at my current house!

KSPG is now at 9 days completely below 60 degrees and this number may jump to 11, shattering the old record of 8 days.
