The closest buoy (I could find) in the North Atlantic is reporting 36.1F SST. Another buoy near the Grand Banks.....offshore Newfoundland was reporting wave heights of 12-20 feet, sustained winds at 35 knots with a gust to 46.6 knots.

My father used to do what he called mid-Atlantic oceanic drifts as a meteorologist with NOAA. I can remember him telling me about the winter storms in the North Atlantic. It must be miserable out there right now.

I think of the "Perfect Storm" whenever we talk about North Atlantic storms. Just imagine the number of vessels that have been swallowed up by those storms over the centuries!

That is one AWESOME looking storm. Love the radar shots!

It's huge! This system caught my attention yesterday and it really looks similar to those systems of The day after tomorrow, thankfully it's not that extreme but it's pretty impressive, this type of systems are one of the reasons why I like winter storms as much as tropical cyclones.

Guidance suggests this storm retrogrades W under the Greenland Block.
