Do you think Austin will get sleet tonight or snow tomorrow (anyone ha ha) I am curious and halfway want it and halfway don't.
Glad ya'll are back up!

I work in north Austin and had a nice little burst of sleet and a few flurries before lunch.

Overnight tonight and tomorrow morning is your best time frame I think if it's going to snow\sleet down there.

Our local "experts" say it's time to go outside and build a cold rain man!

No snow for you, Portastorm!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
315 PM CST WED FEB 10 2010

.DISCUSSION...
LIGHT SLEET REPORTS HAVE SUBSIDED AS THE LAYER OF DRY SUB-
FREEZING AIR HAS LIKELY MODIFIED ABOVE FREEZING THIS AFTERNOON.
WILL LEAVE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF LIGHT SLEET MAINLY FOR THE HILL
COUNTRY AND NERN COUNTIES FOR THE EARLY EVENING...BUT MOST
PRECIPITATION WILL BE LIGHT OT MODERATE RAIN OVERNIGHT INTO
THURSDAY. WIDESPREAD OVERRUNNING RAINS TO PERSIST TONIGHT INTO
THURSDAY AHEAD OF THE APPROACHING TROF...WITH RAINFALL TOTALS
OVER THE NEXT 36 HOURS AVERAGING FROM 1/4 INCH WEST TO NEAR 1.5
INCHES EAST. THE HIGHER TOTALS EAST DUE TO A DEEPER INFLOW OFF
GULF THURSDAY...IN PART DUE TO A SURFACE LOW DEVELOPING OFF THE
LOWER COAST THURSDAY. THE SURFACE LOW WILL MOVE EASTWARD LATE
THURSDAY/THURSDAY NIGHT WITH THE UPPER TROF. THEREFORE RAIN WILL
END FROM THE WEST THURSDAY NIGHT...WITH A SURFACE RIDGE BUILDING
SOUTHWARD INTO THE AREA. BECAUSE OF THE COLD AIR ADVECTION AT THE
LOWER LEVELS AND THE TROF AT THE MID LEVELS...COULD SEE A LIGHT
DUSTING OF LIGHT SNOW (LESS THAN 1/10 INCH) ACROSS THE FAR NRN
COUNTIES (LLANO, BURNET, WILLIAMSON) THURSDAY NIGHT...OTHERWISE
LIGHT RAINS RAPIDLY TAPERING OFF FROM THE WEST AND ENDING BY
SUNRISE FRIDAY. WARMER...BUT STILL COOL FRIDAY WITH VARIABLE
CLOUDINESS...BUT THEN MOSTLY CLEAR AND COLD FRIDAY NIGHT...SUNNY
AND MILD SATURDAY AS A DRY NWLY FLOW PREVAILS ALOFT.

DRIER WEATHER FOR NEXT WEEK...
ARCTIC COLD FRONT ARRIVES SUNDAY WITH COLDER WINDY CONDITIONS
SUNDAY EVENING INTO MONDAY. COLD NIGHTS AND MILD DAYS THRU THE MID
WEEK TO LATE WEEK AS THE NWLY FLOW ALOFT KEEP A COLD-DRY SURFACE
RIDGE OVER THE AREA.

NWS FW posted that graphic and then posted this:

PERIODS OF RAIN AND LIGHT SNOW WILL AFFECT NORTH TEXAS THURSDAY
AND THURSDAY NIGHT. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL GENERALLY BE LESS THAN
1 INCH...BUT SOME AREAS NORTH OF A COMANCHE TO ATHENS LINE MAY SEE
UP 1 INCH OF WET SNOW. SOME SLICK SPOTS MAY DEVELOP ON NORTH TEXAS
ROADS THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY MORNING...ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES
AND OVERPASSES.

Which tells me that we will see 3 inches of snow fall but only accumulate 1in or less. Or they are all smoking the pipe over there and have no freaking clue.

humm seems like they have a lack of communication to the person sitting next to them......

ops...im sure they are busy chatting away at this point and time trying to make the right call

updated:

A rain/snow mix will begin across North Texas during the predawn hours Thursday. For much of North Texas, the precipitation will transition to all snow, accumulating mainly on grassy surfaces. As much as 2 to 3 inches may accumulate in a swath from Comanche and Stephenville...to Dallas/Fort Worth. The snow will taper off from west to east Thursday evening.
Please keep updated with the latest winter weather forecasts from your National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Thats right ms state, they posted that at 4am before the models changed for the better.

edit: hmmm, guess I was assuming you hadn't posted again, lol. Mr. obvious post there for me.

Well, NWS put snow back in my forecast. 40% chance of rain/snow before noon on Friday. Yesterday morning, when I had a 90% chance of snow/sleet, it was for Thursday night. Not as good as that forecast, but better than the all rain forecast I've had since yesterday morning.

17 miles north of here, the forecast is 100% rain/snow Thursday, 100% snow/sleet Thursday night and the same 40% rain/snow I have on Friday. hmmm
