...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO
MIDNIGHT CST TONIGHT...
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NO LONGER IN EFFECT...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN FORT WORTH HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WARNING FOR SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THIS MORNING TO
MIDNIGHT CST TONIGHT. THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW IS NO
LONGER IN EFFECT.

AREAS OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS NORTH TEXAS THIS
MORNING AS A SLOW MOVING UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM APPROACHES FROM
THE WEST. SOME LIGHT RAIN OR SLEET COULD BE MIXED WITH THE SNOW
INITIALLY...BUT AS THE LOWEST LEVELS OF THE ATMOSPHERE COOL...THE
PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE TO ALL SNOW BY MID MORNING. SOME BANDS OF
HEAVIER SNOW ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON WITH 3 TO 5
INCHES OF SNOW POSSIBLE BY THIS EVENING. THE PRECIPITATION WILL
END FROM WEST TO EAST OVERNIGHT.

ROAD CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO DETERIORATE THROUGHOUT THE DAY AS
TEMPERATURES FALL TO FREEZING. MORE SIGNIFICANT TRAVEL IMPACTS ARE
ANTICIPATED THIS EVENING INTO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING AS TEMPERATURES
FALL BELOW FREEZING.

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL
VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.

And they didn't include Denton, Dallas or Fort Worth? Geesh!

I just measured 1/2 inch here in Midlothian.

Isn't that a bit earlier than expected for accumulating snow?

Is any of that sticking to the roads, or is it melting on roadways and sidewalks?

We have a south wind here in Denton. Is that going to kill the snow/sleet chances?

It's starting to stick now -- a slushy glaze over the street and sidewalk.

I have almost an 2 on the ground! Everything is covered and it's sticking to the street here (Irving)! Wow! I didn't expect this so soon. Big, sticky flakes. Many are going to wake up surprised!

This little band has set up nicely right smack over the metroplex. I've got more than a 1/2 in. on my deck, near the big airport.

Are we a little warmer than expected at this hour? 37 with a 12 mph south wind. Odd to say that in North Texas with all snow right now.

Edit: This is amazing, It's a winter wonderland out there, If this is supposed to be all day, NWS is going to have a long day.

Edit: Approaching over 2 inches. It's sticking like glue.

Edit 3: There's about 3/4th's an inch of snow on the road infront of my house. Amazing they are still downplaying this...

Over at east Texas, no snow but chance of heavy snow increased to 100% tonight. However, they lowered the total accumulation to 1-3". :( I hope you guys are enjoying the snow!

Reports of cars slipping\sliding in Ft Worth.

DFW is reporting light snow\fog with half mile visibility.

I have about as much snow now as I did on Christmas Eve which was about 2-3 inches then.

It's amazing how clueless the models are; the GFS and the NAM didn't even have precip. reaching DFW until 6am.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SHREVEPORT LA
507 AM CST THU FEB 11 2010

.DISCUSSION...

EARLY THIS MORNING THE FOUR STATE REGION CONTINUED UNDER THE
INFLUENCE OF SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE THAT EXTENDED DOWN THE
MISSISSIPPI WHICH PROVIDED COLD SURFACE TEMPERATURES AND A
LIGHT AND VARIABLE TO EAST WIND. MOISTURE OVER RIDING THE COLD AIR
ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM OUT WEST COMING OUR
WAY...HAS STARTED TO PRODUCE PRECIPITATION...IN THE FORM OF LIGHT
RAIN MIXED WITH SLEET OR SNOW. THE PRECIPITATION WILL BE CHANGING
OVER TO MOSTLY ALL LIGHT SNOW OVER THE NORTHERN TWO THIRDS OF THE
FORECAST AREA DURING THE DAY. SOME OF THE MINOR ACCUMULATIONS
WOULD BE ACROSS PARTS OF NORTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA
AND POSSIBLE PARTS OF SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS WHERE THE MORNING READINGS
HAVE BEEN COLDER. NOT MUCH WARM UP WILL OCCUR TODAY WITH READINGS
REMAINDER NEARLY STEADY OR SLIGHTLY HIGHER. AS THE UPPER LOW/TROUGH
CONTINUES TO SWING ACROSS TEXAS TODAY AND TONIGHT AND ACROSS THE
FOUR STATE REGION OVERNIGHT...WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION WILL BE ONGOING
AND WITH THE COLDER AIR COLUMN ALOFT EXPECT TO SEE WIDESPREAD SNOW
THAT MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES. WILL SEE SNOW TOTALS AROUND 1 TO 3 INCHES
AND HAVE ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR THE FOUR STATE
REGION FROM THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON. PARTS OF
LOUISIANA MAY SEE ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS BUT FOR NOW WILL STAY
WITH AN ADVISORY AND LATER SHIFTS CAN ISSUE A WINTER STORM WARNING
IF THE AMOUNTS LOOK TO ACCUMULATE HIGHER. THE UPPER TROUGH WILL BE
EAST OF THE AREA BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON WITH ONLY SLIM CHANCES OF
WRAP AROUND SNOW. SNOW COVER AND CLOUDS WILL NOT ALLOW MUCH WARM
UP INTO THE WEEKEND. ANOTHER SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT
AND MAY RETURN A BRIEF PERIOD OF LIGHT PRECIPITATION. AFTER THAT
GOING WITH DRY WEATHER. /06/
