Re: Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)
Since most posters here are from the DFW area, I am happy that at least someone is getting some winter weather. But nothing is more depressing than being just south of all that fun and dealing with this BS cold rain. I had such high hopes when i went to bed and now my day is ruined. the more pics posted the better it will be.
Any chance that the Waco area sees the temp get cold enough for some white stuff anytime today?

I'm going to pick up my camera from my friends house in a little bit. I was using a video camera there, and having to screencap, so the screencapping messes up the quality.

The crazy thing about this storm is that the GFS had it 7-10 days ago. Of course it lost it a few times in between now and then, but still pretty impressive. It's looking more like 6 to possibly 8 inches across the metroplex.

Don't fret. It appears that this is about to turn into a cold rain in DFW.

On the radar, it appears the next moderate/heavy band of snow is starting to transition north-east from the south-west. It looks like North Dallas/suburbs will be having moderate snow for the next hour or two.

Try these. Took the measurement from my gas grill.

Tell you what, folks, what I'm seeing on the long-range models (ECMWF and GFS) indicates that we're nowhere near the end of winter in Texas. I see one storm after another with colder and colder air coming down. Our (Houston) snow chances may be increasing the next few weeks. It just takes the right timing of a passing disturbance with cold air overhead. I don't see any events in the latest model runs, just very cold air. 10-day Euro has cross-Polar flow that dips all the way down to the Gulf! So don't put away those winter coats just yet.
Note: It pained me to say that...

Oh good grief. Channel 4's reporter just tried to sled down a hill. As you can imagine, he didn't get very far in this type of wet heavy snow.
Perfect for snowmen though!
Great pics everybody! Keep them coming!

Like I said last week...cold coming. I have never seen the AO so negative for so long (EVER).

is there any sort of time frame on this? with all this talk about DFW about to be on the rain side of the rain/snow line has me doubting 32 degrees here. What process will occur to cause the temp to drop here? i assume all of the wet bulbing has taken place already and the dew point is 34. do i have to wait for the Low to come overhead?

Hey I feel for you, usually we would be sitting in a cold rain watching okc get nailed with snow. Everything I'm hearing is all snow at the moment. Just had a report from Benbrook of heavy snow, so I don't think there is any rain out there in DFW area at the moment.
Keeping fingers crossed for you and portastorm down there in Austin, sure is pretty up here guys.
