AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
739 AM CST THU FEB 11 2010

.UPDATE...
SNOWFALL IS NOW PREVALENT ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF NORTH TEXAS
AND SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1-2" HAVE ALREADY FALLEN WITHIN A
HEAVY TO MODERATE SNOW BAND THAT NOW LIES FROM MONTAGUE COUNTY TO
SULPHUR SPRINGS. CONSIDERING THESE SNOWFALL TOTALS AND EXPECTED
SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS THIS AFTERNOON...HAVE EXPANDED THE WINTER
STORM WARNING WITH NEW SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 4-6" (6-8") WITH
ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS IN THE WARNING AREA. IN RESPONSE...HAVE
ALSO INCREASED SNOWFALL TOTALS IN THE ADVISORY AREA AROUND THE
IMMEDIATE WARNING.

THE LOWER ATMOSPHERE COOLED MUCH FASTER AND EARLIER THAN WE
EXPECTED. 12Z FWD SOUNDING SHOWS AN ATMOSPHERE ALL BELOW FREEZING
AND THIS WILL PERSIST TODAY. HAVE ALSO ADJUSTED SURFACE
TEMPERATURES TO REMAIN AT FREEZING FOR MOST OF NORTH
TEXAS...EXCEPT IN THE SOUTHEAST. HOWEVER...LOCATIONS IN THE
SOUTHEAST WILL SEE THEIR HIGH TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING IF THEY
HAVE NOT REACHED THEM ALREADY.

I dont understand why Ft. Worth ISD, Arlington ISD, and Dallas ISD are still open...the roads are starting to get bad out there...my work runs off of FTWISD's schedule when it comes to closing for weather, so i'm hoping they at least close early...i normally have a 25 minute drive to get home...

If that kind of stuff persists throughout the day...and if it snows like that in the Metroplex...this will be a storm talked about for years!

Could be a historic snowstorm shaping up...and to use Msstateguy's term, a HUGE snowstorm for North Texas!

If the next heavy band comes through before school lets out. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of pissed off parents, and bus drivers.

Looks like frontogenesis is starting near Lubbock. We still have a ways to go before the event is done and in the books IMHO. The Upper Low track may very well give folks near Austin and Houston a surprise or two when all is said and done. I agree wxman57. This winter is far from being done. If you look a some trends we may all very well be doing this again next week except on a larger scale with some much colder air in place. Makes me long to be on the boat fishing off the Keys, but that was a different time and place.

This is amazing, having been born in Texas and living here all my life, I've never seen anything like this. Even saw snow in Chicago one time, but it wasn't this heavy. Looks like 2-3 inches on the ground in Garland, where I'm working atm, and snow as big as meatballs or maybe quarter size falling down. Roads are starting to get really slushy. Just amazing and very beautiful.

Schools, I believe, are screwing up atm, by not letting out.

KRLD is now saying there could be up to 11 inches of snow.

San Angelo is getting....................rain. Again. Oh well......you can't complain too much anytime you get moisture on the edge of the desert.

there are currently 5 major accidents in Arlington and about 3 or 4 minor one...also have 3 or 4 officers assisting motorists in the city somewhere...

the city of Arlington lists all of their active 911 calls online...

Will the Omega Block break over Austin in the next 24 hrs to allow any snow/sleet?

there are some impressive radar returns SW of the metroplex all the way to Big Bend. if DFW can remain below freezing all day, this will indeed be a historical event.

now blow that 32 line 100 miles south , please!
