Jasper, about an hour north of here, has been reporting light snow for the past few hours.

Meanwhile, we've been getting pretty heavy rain for a little while after light to moderate rain all day. I'm sure this is doing wonders for Pine Island Bayou, which was already above flood stage.
Oh man... to think how much snow this would be if it wasn't falling as rain.

That is an automated weather station at Jasper and is incorrectly reporting snow. It may snow before daybreak...but not right now.southerngale wrote:Jasper, about an hour north of here, has been reporting light snow for the past few hours.

Snow, sleet, and mostly rain here in Tyler today, but in the last 30 minutes has started snowing pretty good and now starting to cover most of the ground here. Hope it continues for awhile. Would be nice to see a good coating like those of you in the DFW area.

Snow just picked up here again in Denton. I moved my car out from under my carport. Saw one on TV that fell on top of cars, not worth the risk.

Nope. It didn't. But I think I see why there were some reports of a slushy mix here. Radar shows very bright returns which just passed through Travis County. No doubt there was probably some sleet or flurries mixed in that band of precipitation. Unfortunately it looks rather thin out to our west so that was probably the end of it.
txagwxman: I didn't see your post until I sent mine. Yeah, I see it and figured out the "why." Graupel. Always loved that word!

Ok, thanks. Do you know what is wrong with it? After I posted above, I looked around and none of the areas around Jasper were reporting snow, so I wondered if it was accurate. I was about to call someone in Jasper and ask them.

WOW!!! It is really coming down here in Denton now. Lite and fluffy snow now. Perhaps the hardest it's come down all day and that's saying alot.

Re: Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)
Just when you think the last moderate band is moving through, another forms to the southwest. Unreal !! Can you believe a Fort Worth NWS employee made a statement today "the last moderate to heavy band will move through the metroplex around 1 pm". Well needless to say, we've had around 4 heavy bands move through since then.

For once, I think we might just be able to enjoy fallen snow for an extra day! Doubt this will all melt tomorrow lol. Personally I hope that band breaks the 8 inch mark for DFW. Since it's snowed a lot already, why not set a nice new standard for aesthetics.
