TigerCraig, NWS has Baton Rouge back up to potentially 5 inches through tomorrow. Hopefully it will expand down about 15 more miles to the south by the next update. This is making my head hurt. :double:

Yeah Mike, I saw that. Funny thing is is that lafayette will have the same temps and we're 100% chance of rain/sleet and little or no accumulation. Interesting how different offices forecast.

I know does not make sense to me. I just asked this in the deep south thread hopefully I will get some answers...

Could someone with more winter weather knowledge help me with a question. I live about 15 miles south of downtown Baton Rouge. For tomorrow the NWS forecast for Baton Rouge has a high of 41 with an 80% chance of snow with accum. of 1-2 inches. For us it is the same temp with rain and sleet mix with no accum. What is going on for such different forecast?

We are at 36 and steady rain here in Calcasieu Parish.

Folks, I know the potential for snow is exciting but keep in mind that we are walking a fine line here especially with nighttime/morning lows to have a small ice situation that can make utilities and driving iffy at best. Our grounds are totally saturated as it is (I've already had two 12' palm trees and 3 young fruit trees fall over to one side) therefore any weight from ice or snow will make this situation even worse. I've been cooped up in this house since Thanksgiving and would love nothing more than to sit by the fireplace and watch the beautiful snowflakes but the fact is, especially with the uncertainty and difficulty that the forecasters are having with this, it could get nasty. Make sure you have your winter preps ready.

On another note, this is the first time EVER that I've gone through an entire cord of wood in one winter. This year certainly has been a colder than normal winter for our area.

I'm suppose to be in Lafayette at 8am. I pray the roads are not iced.

Unless the radar starts to fill in, I'm afraid that even any long shot we had of snow is diminishing. While it's still currently raining, the radar is really starting to clear out to the west. Unless it starts changing over quickly (and I don't think it's going to), it looks like to my untrained eyes that the precip may be gone by the time we have our shot at a little snow. (wee morning hours to daybreak)

It's currently 34°

I wouldn't worry too much on the icing situation going to Lafayette. Local met in Lafayette is saying no chance for icy roads. Good luck and drive safely though.

Snow being reported in College Station and Bryan. Temp is 33ºf here at the house with a light mist still falling. Looks like more is building to our West though. I initially thought it was over, but now I am wondering. I keep going outside to make sure the mist I see isn't snow.

Where is more building? I'm looking at Intellicast, which is about 25 minutes behind at the moment, but it looks to be clearing up west of here rather quickly. I had already lost all hope.

We are currently having light to moderate rain with a few flurries or sleet mixed in in W and NW Houston, depending on your location. When I looked at this radar http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/77080?from=36hour_map_large&zoom=7&interactiveMapLayer=radar it showed the heavier showers that we are experiencing right now building up out to our West.

Ah, ok. I was thinking maybe you meant further out west and that the radar I posted was just behind. It did fill in between here and out toward Victoria, though. It seems like it's been raining forever.

I haven't been outside to check in a while, but it sounds like the same old rain that's been falling all day. I hope your sleet or flurries mixed in turns to all snow before it's all said and done, and then does the same over here, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Since we can't build a snowman, wanna help me build an ark? :P 3 1/2 to 4 inches of rain and it's still coming down. And the ground was already saturated before all this rain.

It's 33° now with rain - how cruel is that?

Doesn't appear that we'll be seeing any snow/sleet here. I was hoping the computer models were a little too warm with their temperatures but everything seems to be playing out as progged right now which means a very wet and cold night. As I type this I hear it starting to rain heavily outside; I've had enough of it time for bed!
