Any chance Central and South Texas get in on the action next weekend? Portstorm is going to have to get grief counseling before too long.

BTW, we haven't enjoyed the white stuff down this way yet. But this winter has been great . Not one temp over 80 since early December! I can't recall a time where we've had a huge number of days below and sometimes way below normal down this way.

Really happy for everyone up north from here that got the snow. In 2004 when we got our snow miracle at Christmas and I had almost 7 inches in my front yard, it was a sight to behold. And thanks to this board and JB, I had a heads up to the possibilty.

Here Portastorm. This one is for you!

It has been snowing in parts of Southeast Texas. Tami Tarver from the Food Mart in Burkeville says it began snowing there at 4 a.m. Friday. She says there's about an inch on the ground. She sent KFDM photos.

Another view said it was snowing in Kountze at about 7:30 a.m. Sleet was reported in Nederland at 7:30 a.m.

As the crow flies, Kountze is only about 15 miles north of here. Dang, closer than I thought.

Oh well... after promising myself this morning to give it up for the winter and look towards spring, txagwxman already has me sniffing out models for the next potential letdown, I mean event. :P

Like I said, none of the models is forecasting it, just hinting at cold down south with an active southern stream storm late next week.

Can you give a quick layman's explanation of what this means? I'm assuming that is an intense High Pressure system, but what does the intensity and position translate for Texas weather?

Not that I believe a 1082mb high will develop, but there was this crazy uncle model run a few days ago that showed a foot of snow in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Yeah, right, who would believe that?!? :D

:uarrow: High pressure in winter = domes of cold air, the stronger (higher numbers) the high, the more intense the cold could be. The January early cold snap I believe was derived from a 1052mb high at it's strongest point.

Nothing for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area most likely. The latest run just shows a fast-moving upper-level storm system (Alberta Clipper) that'll produce snow across Missouri and Arkansas as it races SE-ESE Sunday evening, perhaps a brief trace of snow near Texarkana. But the chart only shows precip over the past 6 hours, not at the valid time of the chart. So precip will shut down very quickly behind the cold front.
