Could someone with more winter weather knowledge help me with a question. I live about 15 miles south of downtown Baton Rouge. For tomorrow the NWS forecast for Baton Rouge has a high of 41 with an 80% chance of snow with accum. of 1-2 inches. For us it is the same temp with rain and sleet mix with no accum. What is going on for such different forecast?

First, whos forecast are you using for where you live. Different stations will have different forecasts. Also, there is sort of a 'ground zero' for these storms, also called a freeze line. This is the frustrating experience waco had all day yesterday until late. the freeze line was just north of them, so everything they got was rain or slush until that line dropped further south.. this could also be another reason for varying forecasts..

Same office, live 10 miles south of baton rouge. Not a busted forecast but just a lot less than forecast. Snowed for about two hours this morning vs the all late night and morning event that was predicted. Much less accumulations with that.

Weather is just getting crazy round here. We are now under a WWA for a chance of more snow and sleet tonight into the morning. 90% chance of rain early, then mixing with sleet, then all snow. :double:

We just had a heavy sleet shower here in Spring Branch with minor accumulation on vehicles. I took pics for confirmation. Will try to get them up loaded tomorrow. Temp now down to 37F and still falling slowly.

I had a relative call me around 9:00 p.m. last night to tell me that their power was out in Cypress, TX. Did other areas of Houston experience power outages last night as the front came through? It's 52 here, rain has started, winds are out of the SW at 14, gusting to 20. No winter precip is expected here, just rain but windy and much colder on Monday.

Apparently it was only in the Cypress area. My daughter lost her power last night for a while too. With two children under 3 yrs at the house we were concerned, but the power wasn't off for too long, at least in her area. Winds were gusting in the 40 mph range when it happened so it was probably a limb taking down a line.
