OT but ... it is a small plane but it hit an office building in a very crowded part of town (183 and Mopac). Still too early to determine injuries or fatalities but a major part of a large office building is on fire and the plane wiped out much of the front of the building.

I used to work in the building next to it. The IRS is in the building that got hit. Hopefully just a coincidence. I work at 183 and Burnet just down the street and can see a LOT of black smoke.

Sorry this is off topic.

NTSB says the pilot set fire to his own house before crash, it sounds like a deliberate suicide mission.

Didn't hear it but one of the tv stations down here did a phone interview with someone who works next door to it and she said it sounded like a bomb went off and shook the building. Looking at the images on tv that building is in bad shape.

Now I wonder if he had a beef with the IRS since it is housed in that building. Another thing to think about is that many IRS returns are sent to the Austin office. :?: :?: Wonder what the implications of that would be.

Also just heard that there are FBI offices in the building.

What I heard on the news, there was a house fire and the man left and took an airplane and crashed it. Only two injured and one missing.

The FAA said the pilot did not file a flight plan.

Seems the early indications are terrorism, or someone with a grudge for some reason (which still falls under terrorism in my book, seeing how one would know it would bring back memories of 9/11). Lone wolf, perhaps.

Yes. As it stands now, it looks like he was having problems with the IRS. The guy had an argument with his wife last night. She and the daughter stayed in a hotel. He burned his house down this morning and drove to Georgetown (where I live - just a few minutes from the airport) to get his plane. There is some debate whether the plane was his or if he stole it but it looks like it is his. He then flew to Austin and slammed his plane in to the building where the IRS is. I worked in the building next door for 3 years before we moved our office down the street. I can tell you they averaged 1-2 bomb threats a year during the time I was next door.

If you see any FBI guys in the video it's because when we moved out of our space (we had the entire 4th floor) they moved in. So at least the people in the building had officers nearby that were able to respond very fast.

The suicide note on his own website is down. There is one at The Smoking Gun.

Regrettably, increasing numbers of Americans are psychologically pressed over the last two years and increasingly ill: loss of job opportunities, loss of stature, loss of health care access at reasonable cost, stigma of mental health care which persists, increased federal, state and city revenue via the long arm of the law to fill the coffers, or as in this case, the IRS, and people snap.

I don't know what the full story here is, yet some of his suicide note words ring similar to others' comments on middle class usury for the 2008 Bail Out and drastic federal, state and local cutbacks on services for them and the indigent.

Why not have IRS amnesty for those middle class people truly struggling? Furthermore, why not have tax fairness by taxing and criminally investigating the American fools who helped bring down America in the Great Recession 2007 to current? This Recession is going to have long legs.

My sincere condolences to those killed or injured today.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I think there are more and more people that are snapping due to the above factors.

How awful. My prayers go to the victims of this tragedy.
