I don't know about this one. I'd all but conceded the snow well to the south of the Red River.
But I've stared at that Intellicast screen several times and it looks to me like there is an almost straight west to east motion on the main precip shield. Checked the Amarillo NWS radar shots and it appears to be the same.
I'm beginning to think that there may be a chance that this a) is moving further north than progged or b) will have a much more widespread impact than previously thought.

Definitely an impressive band of snow...quick few inches underneath it.
And I'd bet there is definitely some thunder with that!

I was just about to edit my post with the thought that such heavy returns could be sleet...

It may be intellicast you're talking about. It's very good at pinpointing the rain\snow line.

Re:
Hard to tell. At first glance you would think so, however I have seen intense snow bands look similar on radar. A few weeks ago a similar band moved just north of me through the north side of OKC and dropped a quick 2-3" of snow on some areas in a short period of time. That might be what is going on right now south of Abilene..or it might be sleet. We can't be for sure without a ground report from that area. Based on some of the north Texas model soundings (and actual soundings) I have seen though, I am inclined to believe that it is probably very heavy snow.TeamPlayersBlue wrote:think it could be sleet?

In an earlier post Ntxw said the "Bands are moving east west, the entire complex if you look further out is moving ESE, also the precip building is shifting south."

One thing i would like to see is a bit more moisture. Again, are we expecting another gulf low to develop?

Re: Texas winter wx thread (2009-2010)
HEAVY SNOW setting up from Sweetwater to northern Coleman county headed towards Abilene, heaviest precip falling around Tuscola/ Buffalo Gap. No sign of weakening. Incridible instability with band.
